Hello and thank you for reading this. I built a new system on an Abit 875P motherboard. Loaded XP pro, 1Gb of dual channel pc3200, SATA HD, Prescott CPU, etc. She came out wonderful in a Lian-Li case. Very sanitary unmodified build. I'm running stock specs.
The problem is with the microphone. I only use the computer for Internet use and photography. I use MSN messenger. The problem is that the I couldn't get the onboard sound to work on the input side of things. I tried 3 different mic's. The recorded sound was barely audible but she played output just fine. I uninstalled the drivers and installed a fresh set right from Realtek. Still no good. I finally dug out an old Sound Blaster PCI 128 and installed it. (yes, I went to bios and disabled the on-chip audio). The SB PCI 128 works great and I can record voice without a hitch now. Works great when using the voice recorder or when using the audio wizard to confirm. BUT, I still can't get anyone to hear me on MSN messenger. I can hear them fine. A quick switch back to the old computer confirms that there is nothing wrong with my router (Siemens ss2604) settings. I even went through the router setup wizard at Siemens. All was fine. Since the only thing that doesn't work right is the onboard sound (the mic part .. sound plays great) I have to assume that it is a MB problem. Does the onboard sound and the PCI sound ultimately take a same route at one point? Was I clear in explaining the problem? Thank you.
