I feel bad for returning an item to BestBuy...

Three weeks ago I bought an FM Transmitter for my car so I could listen to my iPod. It stopped working two days ago, so I took it back for an exchange yesterday. I opened it up and it wasn't working in my car (although it worked in another car).

I bought a new cd player for my car yesterday as well and can now connect my iPod directly to the deck.

With no need for the FM transmitter and no desire to find out why it wasn't working in my car, I took it back to BestBuy and told them it didn't work and wanted a refund.

I feel bad because I know it wasn't the right thing to do. I just sold my soul because I didn't want to be out $135...

Meh, it's best buy. You think they think twice about screwing employees or customers so they can make an extra buck? Why should you?

Why was it not the right thing to do? If it didn't work, take it back. That's the point of return policies.

Well, since it worked in another car, the problem was with my car and not the device.

Maybe, but "not working" is a somewhat subjective issue. You shouldn't have to troubleshoot stuff you buy in order to get it to work with your setup. You're thinking too much like a tech guy.

You're an idiot for:

? spending $135 on an FM transmitter

? thinking you were wrong in returning something that doesn't work and feeling guilty about it

? posting about it

The way I see it, if everyone thinks that way, it's an endless cycle, and someone has to stop it.

Best Buy are evil and don't follow their own policy... Who cares if you cheat them. The more people cheat BB the better it is.

That's $15 for the transmitter circuitry, $50 for the flashy trendiness of the design, and $70 because the market will bear it.
