I still have all CRT, with of course the exception being my laptop.

While LCDs may be really nice and all, I simply cant justify spending the money on one. I have a Iiyama Pro510 22" on my work computer that I still just love, it never gives me any eye strain even after hours of use. It was over the $1000 price point when purchased, at that time it was top 'O' the line, and LCDs werent even widely available. I still consider it a good purchase considering the work I do on it.

For my main home computer I still have an old Sony 420GS 19" that seems to still work really great, I have had it longer than I care to remember (I bought it when I bought my sweet new P2-400 computer)

Just about a month or so ago, I picked up on clearance at Office Depot, a 17" HP flat screen for $12 after rebate, and a 19" Samptron something or another for my parents for $40 out the door. So long as I can find decent quality CRTs for 1/3 (or less) the price of a similar sized LCD, I will stay with CRT.

All that being said, desk space is not an issue for me at all, I have a huge area upstairs at our house for my computer crap. If space were a major issue for me LCD would most certainly look much more attractive.

dual 21 " Flatscreen Sony Trinitrons & a Viewsonic 21" For me.
I don't play games on mine & if I could find a money tree, I'd probably consider the 2100FP from dell (x3) for replacements for nothing else then the fact that my 21" monitors are behemoths and they really suck to have to move.

but if my montors died tomorrow, I'd still be using CRT. Primary reason for me is that my Sonys have dual inputs. I'll be using these until they die. But I admit having a dual LCD Stand for two 21" is appealing, just not worth it.

I don't paly any games on this computer either----but LCD's are still just too expensive for me.

Come to think of it, if I could find the money tree, I'd forgo the dual 21" LCD's and get the 40" Plasma that you can hook a computer up to and run w/ DVI inputs. Don't remember the manufacturer, but I saw it in a local computer store.......

I've gone from the Viewsonic P95f CRT to a Viewsonic VE170 LCD. Noticed the cleaner image and clearer text immediately. Less eye strain, so now I can be on the computer for hours and my eyes don't get dry or is there any pain. For Christmas, I got the Dell 1800fp and wow, comparing it with me VE170, the text is even clearer. Now the VE170's text looks blurry, the same improvement I got when I went from the P95f. Anyway, it's probably because I use the DVI connection now and that's why everything is bright and clear.

I'll echo that, my NEC is the same monitor. I want to like LCDs, but every one I look at just doesn't do it for me (mostly Apple when at work, SGI and Samsung owned by friends -- an admittedly narrow sample). I can't help but wonder if everyone else just has crappy vision, because LCDs don't seem particularly sharp or colorful to me. I also like having accurately displayed blacks available to me. They'd also be very impractical because of the resolution switching I do with my games. I'll bounce from my 1600x1200 desktop to a 1280x960 strategy map to an 1152x864 3D view in Medieval: Total War for example. But for those of you who aren't gamers or graphic designers who require exact color replication, I can see LCDs making a lot of sense. They just don't offer the flexibility I need.

Edit: Wait, I've got more. I've never had eye strain from a computer monitor, so that's not a problem. All you gotta do is look at things that are at different distances now and then and you're good. Keep some soft ambient light going, too.

anyone remember the compaq p910 deal from a year and a half ago.... ~$200 at cdw.com i think it was.

I'm still using that, it's an awesome monitor. I haven't yet seen an lcd that has a nicer picture quality than this tube.

I'm not getting an LCD until they massively increase in resolution, massively decrease in response time, and I am guaranteed a grand total of *zero* dead pixels.

Either that or I somehow stop having a decent amount of deskspace.

Nope ... I got a 19" Viewsonic G90f last year ...

It was like $200 ... vs almost $650ish for a comparable LCD ...

Dual 17" CRT's == teh pwn. Especially when they both cost me a grand total of about $60. Let's see someone find a hot deal like that for two 17" Samsung LCDs!

17" too small, dual 19" is where its at the 19" lcds coming out for ~500 are getting to the point where its worth it though. 19" lcd is 20" crt.
