Saw these guys live last night, never heard of them before but they put on a great show. They use old NES controllers hooked up to a computer to play MIDI tones as part of the songs.

Let me say that again; they use Nintendo controllers as instruments, and it doesn't suck.

Give them a listen.

Correct. It was PCM and pulse/triangle waves.

they have a nice sound. i wish they used the midi tones more though. i wonder why we find those sounds so appealing. they really bring back a lot of memories and just feel good. wish i could play, i mean hear nintendo all day.

That's been done before, intermingling the 8-bit style with the usual instruments is a bit more unique. Why do what has been done a million times before?

There's another one that I heard about last week: http://www.anamanaguchi.com/

Essentially the same thing but they have more reliance on the NES. They have a hacked NES that they program and have play back the music.

Anamanaguchi sounds pretty cool but, to me anyway, it gets old fast and I hear more NES than actual instruments. I like IFD more since part of the fun is knowing they do the NES stuff on stage and it doesn't overwhelm the rest of the music.

wow that was really terrible, and what did the "hot chick" do besides stand there?
