I have Dish, so I get screwed on cable internet regardless, but it's only like $5/month to get basic cable + high speed over just high speed.

Nothing wrong with canceling your TV service.

My wife and I like a lot of things on Discovery Channel, History Channel, and so on. Its great to just flip on the DVR and watch something prerecorded or just turn on Discovery like we did last night and watch a few episodes of Mythbusters. Plus, live sports in HD quality is hard to beat.

It all depends on what you like to do with your money I guess. Some people like going out to the bar with their friends and drinking 4 times a week and dropping a $150 in tabs per month. Me? I get Directv and HD service and spend half of that figure in the month, and I might go out to the bar with my friends once a month and only spend $30. I guess it just depends on what your priorities are.

Are you this guy?

I hardly ever turn my TV on, but I don't think I could get rid of my cable service. Turning the TV on gives visitors something to do so I don't have to make as much polite conversation. Besides, people "expect" you to have basic cable at least.

We've been thinking about canelling our cable and going OTA + Internet. I don't think we are quite ready, but probably after Winter.

Have you scanned latly to see what is out there? A lot of new ones popped up recently after the switch.

I put a $60, or so, radio Shack attena in my attic and I get a lot of channels.

Congratulations, OP. Cable TV is such a waste. I haven't had it for years, and I don't miss it one bit. Too much to do than sit on the couch and veg in front of the TV for hours a day.

This. You guys enjoy your downloading or Hulu'ing or whatever routine you have to watch TV in the name of saving money, I watch far too many sports and shows to give up my service. (Comcast has me by the balls but it's a gentle grasp)

No one I know has cable and neither do we. It's an incredible waste of time. After I canceled our service, my wife and I became much more productive around the house and spent real, quality time together instead of just being in front of the TV.

Have you used Hulu? The shows play instantly, there is no wait, no program to download. You click on a show and it plays instantly.

My isp is getting ready to finish a merger and the result is that they will soon offer history channel, Nick, +8 other tv channels via internet for $9.95 a month. I can't wait to start saving $80 a month.

Canceled my cable yesterday. Of course that also means I canceled my internet. But now I am on DSL which was $20/mo cheaper then just cable internet and 12x faster (although I have yet to test it).

good for singles or those who live the single life. Without family around, I'd be in front of my computer for everything too. Sure you can hook it up to your tv, but other people have their tv needs... can't find bravo/style/tlc/food network shows easily otherwise.

I don't really agree. I have a lot of other, better things to spend my time doing.

That would be an easy choice in favor.
