Today I went out and bought my very first car from a dealership. The car that I got was a 2000 Chevy Cavalier with 67,000K miles on it. I test drove the car and I really like it so I dropped $5878 and got the car. That price included taxes, title and tags. The car has a minor cack in the rear fender and some paint has chipped off around the crack, and the door is a little out of alignment but the dealer is going to fix those things for free and hopefully have the car back to my by Tuesday. Below I've listed the specs on the car.

Make: Chevrolet
Model: Cavalier LS
Year: 2000
Type: 2-Door Coupe
Miles: 67,000
Color: Silver
Engine: 4-Cylinder
B]Transmission:[/b] Automatic

-ABS
-Driver and Passenger Airbags
-CD Player
-A/C
-New tires

The car has just been inspected an is good until '07. All of the fluids have been changed and the tires are brand new.

So what do you guys think?

How old are you? Are you in college? What's your financial situation?

You paid 6k for a Cavalier with 67k on it? I dont really have anything against the car but I do believe you could have gotten something better with 6k

He asked what we thought. I was curious what the going price is because I am currently in the market....looked it up. I don't think that qualifies me as an idiot

I'm 17, not in college (graduating next year), and as for my financial situation, I work a part-time job.

I think people are forgetting that the price included taxes and tags, so I say good luck with the car. Enjoy it. Save up now for a new car, one worth keeping for a long time. Don't buy what you want now, buy what you want always.

you should have asked them to fix it before you actually purchased it....or did you have it written in the contract that you could refuse the car if in fact they did not repair it to your expectations?

Take this as a learning experience. Do your research before buying and don't get hosed again. Have fun with your first car, though, and keep p with the required maintenance.

Automatic is standard. Nobody drives manual anymore. Even sports cars come in automatic these days. I've never seen the fascination with manual cars anyway. I can drive faster in an auto.

Congrats on the car. It sounds like a point A to point B commuter, and there's nothing else to say really...

And to build on what you said- if you're looking for more speed with a manual, look for a different car all together. With 4 cylinders, you're better off with an automatic, unless you just get a kick out of shifting gears. As some of my friends would say, a manual is a man's car.
