I finally had a Voodoo Donut a few weeks ago

A little explanation. The person covered the top with wax paper so when I peeled it back, the voodoo man's face peeled with the paper.

And I agree, it's pretty sub par. The lines were out the door and all around at the downtown location. The NE location was a bit more accessible.

The main reason to go to PDX is still for the pepper salted squid at Thien Hong.

In addition to the "Portland Cream" doughnut(a variant on the Boston cream doughnut), Voodoo Doughnuts also makes a "cock and balls doughnut" that has cream filled "balls"[12]

Want.

In my opinion the donuts are actually very sub par. But they do have crazy concoctions that you can't find elsewhere. Personally I'd rather have a really good donut than voodoo donuts.

Why did you want his mouth that wide open? What did you do with that donut? If it wasn't filled with custard I bet it is now.

Both times I hit it up on my last trip to Portland they were out of the Gay Bar. I agree that they aren't the best tasting donuts but the whole idea is great. Presentation matters.

What am I looking at?

Clearly, it's a racist white wannabe cop Yeti caught in the act of murdering an innocent, hard working, and in no way thuggish rabbit-American. This "Sweet Treat for Social Justice" was sponsored by the Seattle Association for the Advancement of 'Medical' Marijuana, who generously provided guidance for this delicious statement of our collective revulsion and hatred of those who have systematically kept our brothers down.

Got Milk?

Was expecting a discussion of Rogue's Voodoo beer line. More specifically the Rogue Voodoo Maple Bacon Doughnut one.

I had it and didn't think it was very good. It had a funky, chemically smoke flavor that was a little too strong. Tasted like some left some syrupy waffles out next to a campfire.

I tried the Maple Bacon Rogue, I thought it was OK, definitely a unique taste. I have a couple of the Chocolate, Banana, and Peanut Butter Rogues sitting at home too that I haven't tried yet.

It's posts like this that make me wish I was into beer trading. I can't find any of those anywhere.

That beer is based around the maple bacon bar made by Voodoo Doughnuts. Why would you read "I finally had a Voodoo Donut" in a thread title and immediately think, "Yes, that man has consumed a beer?" If he had posted about eating a Pop-Tart would you immediately assume he meant he had eaten at Carl's Junior? It's just such an odd leap to make...

Voodoo Doughnuts are pretty overrated though. They always have a line stretching down 3rd Ave and it's really hard to figure out why. I guess people just want an excuse to eat cock-shaped pastries in public.

I've been having trouble finding Southern Tier around here lately. Used to always to a supply of their seasonals around, but it has practically dried up the past couple years. I don't know if they just stopped supplying to this region due to poor sales or what, but I see them talk about what's coming off the line on Facebook, and I can't ever find it.

I had never heard of Voodoo Doughnuts until I saw the beer and looked up more info on the inspiration for the beer. Nationally, I would guess that far more people have heard of Voodoo Doughnut beer than the actual Voodoo Doughnuts.

That doesn't surprise me at all, it does seem like a fad. Of course it's Portland, and those people are weird.

That place is awesome, and a local bakery near me has finally risen to their standards.

The Ultimate Donut: Cinnamon roll filled with Bavarian cream and spiced apples, fried, glazed, then covered with a dark chocolate frosting.

Halfway through eating one you're already planning when you're going to get your second

Roll bacon strips in between the swirl and it'll be heaven.

Glad to hear you're in town, but it's too bad you fell for one of Portland's biggest tourist traps.

There are at least a half dozen better doughnut shops in the city than Voodoo, and all of them have better product and zero lines.

I like Coco Donut on SW 5th and Yamhill, but Pips Original and Annie's Donuts (both in NE) are top notch.

Another tourist trap: Rogue beer. They're commercially successful enough (just like Voodoo) that it's all non-Oregonians care about. Try anything made by Boneyard Brewing instead. If you need a good spot to try it, try Horse Brass Pub, Rontoms, or Apex.

I popped in there at 130AM and there were only six people in line. I did drive past another time when the line was at least 80 people.

I lived in Portland for about 5 years in the early 2000s and it was a still as I remember it, minus Voodoo Donuts. One of my fondest memories is Wunderland. I miss that nickel arcade. My sister still lives in Portland so I try to visit her and get some pepper salted squid when I can. I knew Voodoo was a tourist trap, but I just had to see what the hype is all about and now I can say it was meh. I'll try those other donut places next time I'm in town.

And the food truck scene in Portland destroys whatever we call this circle jerk of pretentious food vehicles we have here in Dallas.

Maybe because both contains the term "Voodoo Doughnut" and I did not know there was an actual chain called "Voodoo Doughnut". After Google search, I find there are 3 locations all in Oregon. So now how could I possibly initially mistook "Voodoo Doughtnut" beer that is sold in hundreds of locations in 17 states with the "Voodoo Doughnut" chain of 3 stores located in one state.
