I find it fascinating NYC air quality is amazing as the suburbs

We all know NYC tap water is top tier thanks to very meticulous planning and execution.

Currently lower manhattan & lower east side have AQI of 8-10. The worst score is mere 14 in Brooklyn.

How is that possible? I was in NYC just a few weeks ago (before the canadian smoke). It's an absolutely crap-show there. At which height are the AQI sensors actually installed at?

A few weeks ago was Canadian forest fire smoke Armageddon. That's not really a good base level comparison.

yeah, Canadian Smoke was bad everywhere. But it is temporal in nature.

Sorry if I misled you. This has nothing to do with the recent Canadia smoke.

I'm just saying that TODAY and generally, NYC AQI is just as good as being in the woods. That is crazy to me.

I do wonder if the sensors are high up on top of a high rise. If they have a HQ for the weather service or w/e it's probably on top of that building. The air quality would be worse between buildings and near ground level I imagine.

Probably has something to do with the thousands of miles of vast emptiness to the east and the direction of the wind.

For judging NYC's true air quality it would be best to wait for a temperature inversion trapping stagnant air in one place for a few days
