I find myself using fatwallet more and more often...

Because one thing that really drives me nuts about this forum is the huge waste of space in the thread listing reserved for "time of most recent post." Isn't the fact that they are listed in order of most recent post enough? I go to the other place and scan through the items for deals that are new or one day old. Older than that, I generally figure the item will be out of stock if the deal is truly worthwhile. Why not get rid of the "most recent post" column and replace it with a "thread started how many days ago" column?

Why? because most everyone else wants it. What you guys want is not what everyone else wants, more specifically what anandtech wants isnt what everyone else wants.

We go for the majority, as does everyone else in this business which is why just about everyone else lists last post date

You cant compare fat wallet with anandtech, one is a sale forum the other serves multiple interests. Your request is specific to the category you frequent, not the rest. I doubt, at this time, we are going to change forum code just for that, because that means EVERY upgrade we do we have to put the code back in.

Thanks for the feedback, we are listening.

Perhaps a semi-solution would be for people to include the date the thread was started in the thread's title.

So you're saying... we want it because everyone else wants it, and everyone else provides it, and you guys go for the majority....

Well i mean if the poll above does not tell you anything else, it should tell you that the majority either does not care or wants it changed. I certainly would use AT more often than I do if it was changed, and thats the only person I can speak for.

I find Fatw@llet's layout gay. That's why I don't visit it. You're always going to have 2 sides. Unless there are a couple hundred ppl in here complaining, most suggestions won't be changed, and if it will be, in the next revision

You really find the information provided in AT's rightmost column to be worth anything? What does it matter when the most recent post was if the list is already sorted by that variable?

To be honest, this bugs me too. But at most it's just an inconvenience. I just shift-ctrl-click to new window the thread and check the date real quick. If the fix truly involves changing forum code instead of just adjusting some parameters for the HD section, then it might be more trouble than it's worth.

If the post is about 10 pages back and a couple days old it matters. You really find when the post originated useful? I don't. For a Hot Deal like what you said, possibly. For everything else - who gives a damn? I can find that out by clicking on the post.

I don't get it - if the post is 10 pages back, it's 10 pages back on either forum, because both forums move posts to the top when they get posted on. The only difference is that one this forum, posts that are at the top tell you twice that they've been posted to recently, while at the "other place," you know both how active it is, and how old it is.

The way it is now ensures that the hottest deals stay on top because people are always replying to them. I'm o.k. with that.
That being said, could this parameter be user configurable?
If not, would it be possible to have a 'see new posts' type of button that some forums have?

Either way would potentially add to the experience of the user and allow him to shape the forum more to his tastes.

I have no idea if such a change would be easy to impliment or not, but if it's not too bad, maybe it could be added to the To Do list?

Cameronj you did not understand my post.

What you want is something for for sale and trade, i have no idea where you get the idea that last post is never shown on any other board because thats just not true. Last posted date is what all other boards do. Fat wallet has customized his board for for sale and trade, we are not a for sale and trade baord, we just have one category dedicated to that. I appreciate your suggestion but just because you take a poll and suggest something doesnt mean we go off and write code for ya .

It's been said so many times but i'll say it again, we do not hack up code as it ruins upgrade paths down the road. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes it's 10 pages back on either forum. No one cares. Especially in Off Topic and every other forum. If it's bumped up to the point where everyone can see it or someone posted in it, it's obviously relevant enough to post in. I open all threads I read in a new window anyway. A 1/2 a second isn't going to kill me by seeing that it's an old post. If someone has a problem in Technical Support, and he originally posted it a month ago, does that make his problem less important? No, maybe he figured out a temporary fix and bumped his month old post to get a more permanent solution.

Like I said in my first post, and like Zuni said, it's not much of a feasible option unless the majority complains about it. The majority does not care about that, because if they did they'd all be in here b1tching about it. Wow, yes has 15 votes compared to 3 votes for no. That's definetly a great reason to hack the code and implement it in, making it a pain in the arse for him and everyone involved in updating the forum servers. No offense, but you and the 14 other people who voted yes are one out of 114,716 registered users. If it bothered people so much or it was a really neat useful feature then you'd see a lot more than 15 people vote yes and ask for it. Quite frankly it bothers you and a couple other people and that's no reason whatsoever to change things from the status quo.

I don't know if it's been brought up before, but would it be possible (and worthwhile and effiecient) to be able to add the ability to select which thread properties that you'd like to see? Kind of like Windows Explorer, where you can choose time, size, last modified, etc. Just allow users to pick which property they'd like to see (like views, last post, last read, first post, etc)?

Funny, if that were the case, I would have expected the AT folks on this thread to have said so I don't see the option anywhere in my settings, what is it called?

1. Click on "profile"
2. Click on "Personal Options"
3. Change "Would you like to see the most recent Replied To topic at the top" from "Yes" to "No"
4. Voila, your threads are listed in order of creation date (newest to oldest)

Thanks.... that gets it closer to the functionality of that other place. Wonder why Zuni didn't mention that?

Not helpful? I take the time to answer most questions around here and im not helpful

That option will kind of do what you want, but from what you were saying I thought you wanted an actual column outputting that and have that be the default for everyone in that category (not possible).
