I found a prime!

Dear Primefinder, Congratulations! Our records indicate that a computer registered by you has found a unique prime number. This computer is running BOINC, is attached to the PrimeGrid project, and is assigned to the Proth Prime Search. What makes this prime unique is that it's large enough to enter the Top 5000 List in Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database.

Yay!! It is 180406 which puts me at around 1300 on the top 5k list. How common is it to find primes? I just joined the project and have under 1k credit. What luck!

i just started the program. how did you know you found a prime?
was there a pop up box message, or did you have to scroll through all that data shown in the communication/worker unit box?

They showed the number as 849*2(599283) + 1. That's a pretty big number. What is 180406?

I believe that is the actual number of digits in the number.

apparently I found one too but took 1200 wu's to find one. Hey your odds are better finding a prime than a space alien! hahaha

I've read up on it and it's common to find. It's the LOW prime numbers that are more valuable. Something lower then 5000 then you get your name in some magazine.

Sadly I doubt that will happen for a while. I'm trying to spread stuff out to get a lot of projects past mile markers. Once I get PrimeGrid over 250k I'll swap to another to work on 250k.
