I visited a tobacco shop about a week ago and purchased a $10 cigarette machine and bag of tobacco+paper tubes.

Not only is the cigarette good, it costs ~$10 for an entire carton worth of tobacco and tubes compared to the usual ~$37.

It takes about an hour to pack a packs-worth of smokes which makes me not want to smoke as often. Sometimes I just wont have one because I'm too lazy to make one.

Maybe it will lead to quitting?

And if you come in here to bash me for smoking, STFU.

A novel idea, but smoking cigs to quit smoking cigs doesn't sound like a brilliant plan.

I don't know anything about quitting smoking other than that it's supposedly very difficult. But hey if you smoke less and spend less money, that's better than smoking more and spending more money, right?

Some people quit cold turkey, others try to gradually reduce the amount they smoke. Whatever works. Good luck. Hopefully you can quit.

I had your same thought process, kalmah. The only way to stop is simply to stop. I speak from experience. Smoking a pipe, cigars, rolling your own, etc, are just ways to postpone the inevitable.

it wont work, though you make cut back. my bro used to roll his own and smoke a pipe when he wasnt working a regular job and cut way back...but he doesnt have time for that at work now, so hes back to smoking by the pack.

I had two friends go that route. I think it didn't work for a couple reasons. One, a rolled cig is way better tasting. Two, they didn't roll theirs with filters so they were getting way more nicotine per cig.

Hope it works out for ya, though. I'm about a week and a half into quitting.

its def a 'healthier' way to smoke - you can buy additive-free tobacco and natural filters, so that's a plus. also, as you said, it's wayyy cheaper.

if you're trying to quit, this is the wrong way to do it. if you don't really care about quitting, then keep doing it this way

Tried it, didn't work. The nicotine addition makes what you think might be a rational idea (that is, "well I won't want to roll a cigarette each time I want one) completely null. You will, and you will probably smoke the same amount as you would if you had bought a pack. Nicotine addiction sucks at every level. :/

<-- Pack a day smoker.

My trick to quitting was to gradually increase the number of drags I would puff like a cigar instead of inhaling.

Over the course of 4 weeks or so, I was puffing nearly the entire cigarette. At that point, nicotine intake was down and puffing cigarettes was so nasty that it retrained my mind to hate them.

That was 6 years ago.

Now this sounds interesting. I find it's the act of smoking that's hardest for me to quit.

I've helped a few friends of mine quit by smoking them up with my herb in place of a cigarette! Not as cheap, but it certainly helps cut back on cigarettes.

yeah but they still have to deal with the nicotine cravings for a while, right? i know a guy who cut out the cigarettes and just smokes herb, thats fine (And hell, herb is nice, ive only ever smoked one cigarette)

once you get used to rolling them, it takes no time at all. a guy i know carries a can of tobacco and a pack of papers all the time and he can roll one in well under a minute and barely has to think about it.
