man i had an interview the other day and i choked on the easiest question! what are the main advantages of pointers. i coudl have mentioned dynamic memory allocation, its use in double buffering (animation), loads of examples where pointers would save tons of time and space and convenience, but noo i had to choke and say somethign stupid. what is wrong with me?? i hvae great grades and am a good programmer, but i suck at technical interviews. how do i get rid of this career crippling interview-fright?

threaten to kill the interviewer if they don't give you the job

no but seriously, you just need to relax, you're probably too nervous. Clear your mind before you go in there and think before you speak. Interviews are scary, but they get easier as you get more experience with them.

How much time do you spend preparing for your interviews? I'm no engineer, but generally, they ask the same kinds of questions about your groupwork and strengths/weaknesses. Have a friend do a mock interview... practice and try to stay relaxed.

Like I said before, you just need to relax and calm yourself down before you go in there....it doesn't matter how smart/prepared you are if your mind is travelling a million miles a minute you won't be able to say the right things. Take your time answering your questions, but not too long

I hear you... My senior comprehensive exam was basically a mock-interview where three profs gave you technical questions from any class you've taken. I did really well then, but I'm wondering how I'd do now that I've been out of school for 7 months. No freaking way could I tell you the difference between modus ponens and modus tollens now. Edit: not that I'd ever be asked that in an interview, that's just the first thing I remember studying for my comps

maybe go spend a hour looking at interview howto books in your bookstore... read a few that you find are useful. you have to arm your brain with a few possible routines for a myriad of questions. and learn that there can be more than 1 way that they ask a question, to which you pull out from your database, the appropriate answer...

definitely have to practice. it is a must. in front of a mirror, to friends, must.

That's a great idea. If you're still close to where you went to school, see if a professor or two will take half an hour and give you a mock technical interview.

For some people, they're never easy. However, I think we can safely say that the next one will be easier. This kind of thing does get better with time as you build confidence in yourself.

You need to practice. Find some practice questions including normal and behavioral, write down and rehearse the answers.

dont sweat it dude. the more interviews you have under your belt the better you will be. you can also do mock interviews and just practice. eventually you'll be very well prepared.

Well, it passed already, not like you can go back or anything.
Treat this as a lesson, and prepare more next time.

Just relax and be confident on answers you provide when an interviewer ask you questions.
