It's sad that now, almost two weeks after moving home upon the [fairly acceptable] completion of my first year of college, I am starting to have nightmares about missing finals, forgetting classes, etc. At least when I wake up, I realize pretty quickly that it's not real.

Missing your final sucks, but at least your professor isn't being really anal about it.

well that's what I'm doing...

Seriously though, bad move. A schoolboy error if you will. Dig up this thread when you know your result (pass/fail)...

Make friends with responsible people in every class. Make sure you study with them so they tell you when the exams are. Also use this as an excuse to approach cute girls in your classes.

Have you tried seducing your professor so she'll let you take the final?

She soon finds out from a friend that her make up final isn't at noon but is also at 8 am! Needless to say, she was screwed.

Also, don't you know anyone in your class....at all? Unless it's a small class.

I'm sorry but it is stupid to assume anything when it comes to final times. You need to make sure you know where you have to be when you have to be there.

I am sitting there waiting to take my final (30% of our overall grade) and I quickly realize something isn't right. It's 5 minutes after class is supposed to start and no one is there still. Just me, sitting by myself, in a pathetic state.

I leave and go home to read over the syllabus again. On the last page, it also clearly states the final will be May 10th...last week. Doh' No final? That just dropped my grade 30% automatically...aka I am now failing.

After I finished crying like a baby and punching myself in the face, I get composed and write the professor an email explaining my stupidity. She replies saying that I cannot take the final and she doesn't know what she should do, as I was doing quite well in the course up until this point.

She then replied again coming up with a "solution" She gave me 12 assignments to complete, including an essay & a project, just to get a passing grade. Jebus this sh!t will take all week with my remaining finals and work.

I would have easily received a B in the course after working all semester. Now I have work my ass off again just to pass. Sooooo much better than failing, as she could have just been a b!tch about it and told me to F off. Lesson learned, read the entire syllabus.

i pulled a 4.0 this semester. yay me.

Had a 4.0 last semester, obviously can't repeat that. Oh well.

Haven't gotten a 4.0 yet (and probably never will). I get the same GPA every semester (3.82 - 2 4.0's, 3 3.7's). This pattern has remained constant for the last 4 semesters.

I did that once for my Auditing II course. Luckily enough, I had a good rapport with the Auditing instructor, so i was able to take it, albeit at a 15% penalty off the top. I would have passed the course regardless, but it would have been a shyte grade...

Be nice to your teachers/profs, and they might scratch your back if you screw up...

Now I have to look for it (I don't know where the hell it is, after I got it back I was so frustrated with myself that I don't know where I put it). You'd think that being an scantron exam it'd be easier for them to record the grades but it's not. I just learned this, because I actually got my test back and graded....this is beyond stupidity. Worst thing is, I don't know whose fault it is...mine for not being responsable and archiving my exam or hers for actually not doing a good job when recording the grades (she could have approached me and asked me if I took the exam or done something that one of my professors did which was that I had to sign a paper when I picked up my exam).

In high school, I had a B+ in a class at mid-term, got all A's after that and then had a B- as my final grade. I asked the professor why, and she said it's because I got a 29 on one of my tests. I keep all of my work, and it turns out that I got a 92 on that test!

OP, I would definitely talk to someone in an administrative position about the timing of the final. I had a professor change the time of our final from 8pm to 6:30pm, but she had to get the permission of everyone in the class to have the final at a time different than what is designated by the school. Obviously your prof didn't have your permission, so hopefully you'll still be allowed to take your test. I would act quickly though, since this is the end of the semester. It might seem like a lot of work, but I would just make one phone call to the appropriate Dean to see what he/she has to say about it.

yeah...the problem is that this is college, this kind of stupidity is not supposed to happen.

I kinda applaud the op.

Usually these threads end up with a "How did I get screwed over so bad it wasn't my fault I did nothing wrong everyone is out to get me"

 for a lesson learned, op.

No way, I am not going to throw away a semester of work and time just b/c I have to put in a little more. I wasn't going to get an A, so I really don't care at this point between a B & a C.

Well, it didn't say that the final would be Yesterday, it just said that the class ended Yesterday. Why the fvck the class would end, during finals week, without a final and without a class meeting is beyond me. .

The EXACT same thing happened to me this semester except for a little difference on timing. Our class time was 5:30, but the final was scheduled for 4:15. Oops. He failed me. No chance to make it up. I had a B, too.

It's odd that your professors don't make a huge deal out of when the final is. For my classes that start at 6:30, the finals are given at 8:00 on the same night. My professors remind us of that for the last 2-3 classes. Both of my professors this semester tried to change the final to 6:30 so that we would get out earlier. They had to have the consent of ALL the students in the class. It worked for one class, but not the other. I don't know how the time of the final can be up to the professor's discretion without the consent of the students.

Ouch, that is why I am grateful I have a chance to make up the grade by doing extra work.

Ha!, I have my exam graded right here (I did actually put all my exams in a folder but I forgot I had done it). I emailed my professor and she hasn't responded yet. She will have a sh!tload of trouble changing the grades now but she has do it (She has to write a justification for changing it after submitting it and in this case the only justification is her "mistake")

oh well...
