I fvcked up and am now at the mercy of my professor

The class syllabus clearly states at the top the class ends May 17th. So yesterday I stroll into class a little bit early but find it odd that no one else is there.

I am sitting there waiting to take my final (30% of our overall grade) and I quickly realize something isn't right. It's 5 minutes after class is supposed to start and no one is there still. Just me, sitting by myself, in a pathetic state.

I leave and go home to read over the syllabus again. On the last page, it also clearly states the final will be May 10th...last week. Doh' No final? That just dropped my grade 30% automatically...aka I am now failing.

After I finished crying like a baby and punching myself in the face, I get composed and write the professor an email explaining my stupidity. She replies saying that I cannot take the final and she doesn't know what she should do, as I was doing quite well in the course up until this point.

She then replied again coming up with a "solution" She gave me 12 assignments to complete, including an essay & a project, just to get a passing grade. Jebus this sh!t will take all week with my remaining finals and work.

I would have easily received a B in the course after working all semester. Now I have work my ass off again just to pass. Sooooo much better than failing, as she could have just been a b!tch about it and told me to F off. Lesson learned, read the entire syllabus.

Sorry to hear that
Usually the professors state these things in class though. Did you go to class?

No your lesson learned should be GO TO CLASS. I've done that before and you know what? The syllabus is always "subject to change". Live and learn. You're VERY LUCKY you get the opportunity to pass.

Responsibilities over dates and deadlines is one of the most important lessons to learn before entering the workforce. So many people can't adhere to the dates they set or that are set for them.

That sucks buddy, but don't let it ruin your Summer, do the best you can in those assignments and everything will be alright. In the end, it's just a grade. You could retake the class later.

What I find strange is that she had our personal emails (we gave them to her) and she would email us every week with a study guide. If a student of mine was getting a A/B and all of a sudden didn't show up for the final, I would send an email. *shrug*

I would lose that agenda book by the end of the semester.
