I don't know why, but I just have this 50/50 gut feeling that I might get laid off from my job in the next year. I like to be in control of my life and be the one calling the shots instead of my employer. Should I start looking for a job now? That would look better on my resume, wouldn't it?

How badly do you need the money? I would probably hang around on unemployment for a few months or whatever it is (afterall, I paid into it).

Always update your basic resume at least every 6months. And write a custom based on that one for each job.

No one really knows when they will lose their job. Heck the CEO of a small bank was in shock when the Fed came in and took over. So even the top guys don;t always know. They may have a feeling, like you.

What kind of question is this?

You should be looking for better jobs even if you have a good job. WTF. Think before you post.

Yes, start looking now. Being out of work for any period of time sucks (ok, the first month is pretty damn satisfying if you have a handle on your $$$ but after that, it sucks).

ABN - Always be networking...and occasionally update your resume. You don't necessarily have to be always looking for another job, but there's no excuse not to take at least basic steps so you're not caught flatfooted and unprepared.
