FEAR is good for the suspense (at least the first couple times through) but I actually find it to be a very plain looking game. Not the best showcase for a G80 + widescreen display. Q4 is better looking for a game of the same vintage. Far Cry is a weird mix of lushness and clunkiness, but its gameplay makes up for it. I got Dark Messiah of M&M free with my card - not bad looking, but as soon as you try to mouse over books on a shelf to try and read them you realize the game can't even think about touching Oblivion. In fact, in the face of Oblivion I'm not even sure why they bothered to release it. Don't pay more than $15 out of the bargain bin for this one. HL2 and HL2: E1 are aging well. Doom 3 is so farking contrived that it pisses you off, but it still looks good. Some tweaking is needed if you are going to play it on a wide screen.

People who spend $400+ on a video card generally have an idea of what they're going to do with it before spending all that cash. You spent the money simply because 8800 cards are new on the market and you want a piece of it.

Oblivion is not a bad game, but c'mon... You guys haven't either finished this game or gotten bored with it yet?

FEAR - not bad either, but as Rollo put it a while ago, "this game could have done with more paranormal and less normal". The multiplayer is fun though. Definitley worth downloading the free multiplayer. I didn't enjoy the singleplayer enough to buy Extraction Point.

HL2 (EP2, DM, etc...) - c'mon, haven't you already played this? Awesome games though. If you haven't played these and like FPS games, drop what you are doing and play these games.

Prey - not bad either, but play the demo and you pretty much get everything the game has to offer. Not a lot of change in scenery throughout the game. It's definitely worth the $20 it sells for at gogamer.com though.

A couple of other games mentioned in this thread that I don't play, as I'm not much of an RTS gamer, that look pretty good.

Infernal looks awesome, but it's not out yet. This is sort of the story with games these days... UT2007, Huxley, Warhammer Online, STALKER, HL2 EP3, and Enemy Territory just name a few...

So, anyway until the new games do come out I'll keep playing WoW on my 8800GTX cranked to the max with my moron friends. It's either that or post on anandtech forums with you morons

Dark Messiah looks pretty cool. It ran like crap on my system though. With that high end video card you should blow through it. It uses the HL2 engine.

So you paid the extra cash to get a GTX over something like an X1950XT, and the only use it sees is WoW and websurfing? I'm wondering who the real moron is since even the DX9 card would be overkill for that stuff...

It's a really nice game...I just hated starting out in the Mini...it's a nice car and all but I hate the FWD handling. My favourite to drive is the 911. Too bad the game has Starforce...I don't wanna have the disc in my comp all the time.

I tried to max out that game on the rig in my sig and it took my comp out back and spanked it a couple of times and sent it back to me crying. I was getting about 9-12fps at 1280x1024.

- HL2 and Lost coast (but the source games are previously mentioned), got bored with these quite a while ago but the 8800 breathes into them new life.

- Oblivion (w/o texture pack, gonna' go get it...)

- Guildwars (WoW without the overhead and without the monthly fees)

- Dark Messiah (came with my card but just can't get into it )

- CoD/CoD2 (aging but quite nicely)

Games I'm waiting impatiently for:

- Hellgate London (If we ever see it it will be righteous, If you have the bandwidth download the cinematics cause they rock)!
Hellgate Linkage

- And of course Crysis

- And not to forget Halo2 PC

Games I want but will probably NEVER see:

- Duke Nukem Forever

- Diablo III

- Halo3 PC

Well, I actually had an X1900XTX, 7950GX2, and this card replaced 7900GTXes in SLI... I'm certainly not going to argue that my video card purchases are 'smart', however just because WoW is my preferred game at the moment doesn't mean I haven't played most of the games mentioned in this thread with it. I really bought the card for upcoming games though, they are just taking a while to come out. I also play WoW at 1920x1200 16xAA/16xAF, so it isn't as if the card is just sleeping all day.

Supreme Commander demo came out today... might be nice to try out on a nice rig like that, although it's meant for 2 monitors. I'll second all of the Oblivion, Company of Heroes and FEAR recommendations, too.

I have played FEAR on my 6800XT and it looked great, graphics only get better i guess.

Oblivion- i have played it though, graphics did not look that great on a 7900GT. And where can i download the texture pack?

I guess i will just have to wait for some new games to come out.

I actually bought this card JUST to play Halo wars on vista when it comes out.

I am jealous of your 8800. I have been holding off playing Oblivion because I want to experience the game in all its glory + visual mods. I will most likely upgrade when intel releases 45nm quad core, and when the second gen DX10 cards are released by either nvidia or ati. Till then I won't be able to close shut the jaws of oblivion.

I currently ahve an opty 146 (@2.4), 7800gt and 2gig ocz. Not bad but not great or even good for oblivion.
