Not that upset. It just sucks because it is a major course, and I like my major GPA to be high.

Well I must live in bizarro world then because I always thought that a B WAS high. I lived on them, and it certainly didn't hurt me any.

I can understand your embarrassment. I got one "B" during my time in community college...in beginning keyboarding of all damned things. I typed over 70 wpm with very minimal errors, but the instructor didn't like my technique...my "pinky fingers" have both been broken, smashed, jammed, and/or dislocated enough times over the years that I just can't make them hit the keys they are supposed to...so my "ring fingers" have to do double duty. I passed their written test with a 100%, scored nearly perfect on the typing tests...and still got an 85 overall because of the technique.

I did that this semester, except i got a C. I feel silly for it. It was a one credit biology lab course, and the only reason I got a C is because every once in awhile i'd miss the one class we had a week, and sometimes it happened to be on a day that was rather informative about the quizzes or lab write ups. Ugghhh it was so easily avoided, and will be my only grade lower than B+ this semester (presumbably).

If I remember correctly, at my university you have to have at least a 3.0 in your major GPA to graduate, and a 2.5 overall GPA, so B's couldn't really be your high.

Or maybe it was just a 2.5 overall?

Can't remember.

Wow, that sounds like BS. If you get it done, you get it done, regardless of your pinkies...

Who the eff cares. Never going to make a difference in your life.

Well, if my grades really did plummet I could lose scholarships, which would make it impossible for me to go to the same private university.

But I think I'd really have to screw up to do that.

Got a B+ in Diff EQ. Going home in 3 days. Imagine how I feel when my dad IS the stereotype.

I still know how you feel though, I have dreams every other night about getting A's and stuff in classes, though it becomes a nightmare when I wake up. I really need to do better in school. Screw Engineering classes, even though actually building stuff is like the greatest thing ever.

Ah if B's are needed to graduate that would be why it's so bad, everything getting curved to B's not to then normal c's or d's if the professor even curves at all.

Here professors don't really care, if half plus the class fails so be it so GPAs get raped...

Maybe you can transfer to another university and leave this black spot on your record behind.

Unless a single B sends you into a spiral of depression that causes you to become an alcoholic coke-dealer, I don't think that's an issue.

Most are classes are curved to a C. Well, the professors only curve for you, not against you. If the average turns out to be an 85 or unusually high they won't make 85 a C.

A few classes don't curve, like the discrete mathematics one I was talking about, but those are usually because the class is easy.

The only class I took that wasn't curved that ended up not being easy was Physics II. The averages on the exams were something like 40%, yet the teacher refused to curve because one student kept getting 100. I ended up with a B in that class, but the class filed a complaint about her grading policies and everyone got bumped up a +/-, so I ended up with a B+.

Great idea.

LSU here I come. My home state university, where writing your name on the test gets you an A.

Boo here if a class average was a 40% it would have stayed in a lot of classes.
For being a top school it sure is making it easy for the students.... so not fair.

C's get degrees

Depends on where you're going to get hired though. If I was going through a stack of resumes, a C in discrete mathematics would probably be sufficient for me to eliminate you as a candidate (for a position teaching high school mathematics.)
(edit: and yes, we require college transcripts.)
