On what device? I have it on my pixel 2 and find it meh. Waiting to get it on S8+ and Note 8.

A lot of times these updates are meh. It's why I personally don't care that much and spend a lot of time going "where's my update??? Where's my update!!" instead of just enjoying a good device .

Most times thus far, a number has changed, some interface elements switched around and maybe some new software function added. If I'm honest, it's rarely anything more exciting than a theme change and downloading some new apps giving me near the same satisfaction level. That is to say... meh.

If it unlocks some hardware feature of my phone I didn't have before, speeds up radically, improves function noticeably, gives me access to apps that would otherwise be incompatible etc... then I dig an OS update. But it's rarely that. And sometimes I've seen people fume over it being LESS than any of the above.

(Can't recall an update personally that's actually slowed my devices, but that sure would make me question the point of an update obsession if I had one ).

It's not terribly impressive overall yeah. That's why I'm glad Essential provides timely security updates every month (often faster than Google!) for Nougat while they iron out the bugs in the Oreo beta.

I use OP 5t, 8 has given me better Bluetooth playback at least...so I'm happier than their version of 7.

I can't say I am interested in Android 8. I haven't been interested in updates since 6. Same can be said for iOS; other than the recent file manager.

Both major mobile operating systems feel quite mature at this point.

I don't know, Project Treble and my 2XL's dual system partition make for a pretty sweet setup.

I do miss the uber-rich media notifications from Nougat, though.

While day-to-day user facing impact really isn't that different from Nougat, Oreo made HUGE strides in better modularizing the OS. One immediate payoff is that my phone will have 3 years of guaranteed updates, and if I decide to custom ROM it later on, those ROMs will have so much more compatibility out of the gate because of the behind-the-scenes work this update brought that people always just dismiss.

And for a supposedly tech-centric forum, it's pathetic.

Android 8.0 didn't introduce a lot of updates the average person would notice. There have been many updates with huge changes but everything is just small tweaks now since it went through so many huge changes already.

It's kind of why I'm not dying to have a Nexus/Pixel phone anymore. The changes OS changes are minimal now.

I just got it on my S8+ yesterday. I like Samsung's implementation of Oreo better than Nougat.

I received 8 on my Verizon S8+ yesterday. The cool thing is that even though it came from Verizon the update was pushed by tmobile as I use my tmobile sim in it. Now when I reboot the phone it boots with tmobiles screen. Pretty cool. And there is now no Verizon bloat.

For s8 users, how is battery life so far?
S8+ on T-Mo here. Today is my first full day on Oreo, and it's good so far. I'm at 77%, unplugged 8h15m ago, on 4G, w/ location/Bluetooth on, syncing emails. I need more time to see how the battery is on Oreo.

Got the 8.0 update last week on my S8. Overall it is hardly noticable within the UI, but the phone feels a bit faster. With everything else being equal ( battery life, ect...) I'd say it's a worthwhile upgrade with zero downside.
