The key for me to peripheral vision is don't get those silly looking thick plastic frames. I get it, they suit a certain fashion/look but I don't see the sense in blocking any more of my field of vision than necessary to get the job done.

I have thin titanium frame for rougher use and frameless for gentler activities. Before my last prescription change I also had polycarbonate sports glasses for even rougher use, but haven't gotten around to replacing those yet, and they did have much thicker frames causing tunnel vision.

The other factor to me is small lenses. This makes a large difference in glasses weight so they don't make my nose or ears sore, all else equal but this is also a matter of correct size and fitment, but I have greasy skin so the friction against the ears/area must be higher to keep them from sliding. Sometimes I'll use silicone hooks like these:

I have zero issue with peripheral vision with my thicker black plastic framed glasses. I wear my contacts 90% of the time but when I wear my glasses those are what I have on. Except my prescription ray-bans for driving and in bright daylight. They look fine and I have no issues with peripheral vision. Have never thought I needed more peripheral vision or that they blocked my vision either for that matter. The style works so I can have bigger lenses which actually makes it work, smaller lenses are more annoying. They would be even more annoying if you had progressives on smaller lenses.

My nerdy glasses on me with my ex fiancee

^ No that's the online part, it is uninterruptable power unlike their backup lighting system which may be offline and take a moment to kick in. Yes some devices have a battery backup, but that only provides finite runtime while the generator can have fuel added while running, practically infinite runtime.

Oh ok, yeah at our hospital they were generator plugs, so there was a transfer time. But the really critical stuff was on UPS or had it's own battery, only needs enough battery to handle the transfer time.

I've been wearing progressive glasses daily for the last six years. I hate them, and can't get used to them. I was going to do Lasik until I found out how much it would cost me. The wife's sister has been on me to get contacts, but that's a hard no for me.

I just got progressive lenses, but still have great vision compared to my wife. These are like a +1.0 and maybe a -.75 distance.

I'm not a huge fan of wearing glasses because I feel like the glass puts a haze on everything I see, I lose peripheral vision, and have tunnel vision as a result of that.

I'm trying to get used to them, but since my vision is on the line, I don't really need them. Late in the afternoon after staring at my monitor, I got them so I could reduce eye fatigue.

How do people deal with wearing glasses all the time?
Oh my buttercup, that is only the first step in your journey to growing older sucks. There are many, many more adventures that await you.

I have 4 pairs of glasses! I started out with progressives but switched to bi-focals! I get all my glasses at America`s best and am super happy with the glasses!!
Yeah but it takes a few seconds or so for that to kick on. There is a transfer time. I would hope the machines have their own battery backup as well. I know IV machines and such do so can't see why the big ones don't as well.
you are way over thinking this.......no it does not take a few seconds it is immediate! I have had surgery eye surgery and its nothing like if you're having regular surgery where they must finish once they cut you up!
In fact I have had surgery on my eyes where they started and then I had to come back the next day or so to finish!!

Took me years to accept I needed to wear glasses. Only really accepted it when it became pretty-much impossible to function without them.

Bit annoyed that nobody previously warned me that even if you have perfect vision when younger, it'll probably start to go once you turn 40. Apparently such age-related deterioration is correlated with level of education - the "four-eyed swot" stereotype is not complete fiction. Seems the more reading (and other 'close work') you do in life the more likely your eyes will start to lose ability to focus when you get older.

I wish they'd invent adjustable glasses, though - with maleable lenses and a little dial to twiddle to switch between close-up and distance.

Wore glasses for about 7 years, until I was able to wear soft contacts back in the mid 80's. In basic training in 1986 they made us wear birth control glasses, and I said hell no, and got contacts. I wore contacts until 3 years ago, when I had Lasik. Lasik was a piece of cake, but expensive. Better places charge more, but do a better procedure and offer a better chance of success as they don't take as many chances like the $99 an eye places you see advertising.

I have to wear cheaters still at 53 years old, but they have drops for that now and other improving technologies. I run ultramarathons so sunglasses with transition lenses and 1.5 readers in the bottom are my savior.

I hate glasses, but I like the safety they offer. I had a piece of steel stuck in my eye in my youth, they dig it out with a needle after numbing your eye, I was really into safety glasses after that.

Glasses suck, but it's cool being able to see. Been wearing them about 40 years also, with a brief detour into contacts.

I need new ones bad, but need to make time to get to walmart. That's where I got my last set. They're alright, and it was convenient. I thought I was gonna have to fight the eye doctor. She wanted to prescribe bifocals for me, and I didn't want them. I can see up close fine without glasses, and I need my vision to be predictable. Sometimes I need to see close looking up, and other times I need to see far looking down. It's easier for me to just pull my glasses down and look over the top, then deal with lenses that change depending on where you look through them.
For a while I thought that was more convenient (just adjusting the glasses when I needed to see close up), but now that I've adjusted to the progressives, it's definitely more convenient to not have to futz with my glasses regularly.
Progressives take a little while to get used to, but after a week or so, your brain will catch up with your eyes (or vice versa) and you will know where to look automatically with your glasses, depending on the distance. I am more far sighted so distance isn't a big deal. Don't really need for driving, but night driving is better with glasses. But up close, I can't read phone text. Definitely didn't want to carry two or three pairs of glasses.
Progressives work just fine for me.
Yeah, it took me a while to get around to taking the time to go through the adjustment period.

My eyesight was extremely stable from my teenage years until I hit age 42, and the dread presbyopia showed up
I'd had the same prescription that whole time, verified by an optometrist at various points (I didn't make appointments often).

After the conservatives get science banned from our schools, we'll be lucky to still have electricity.

Apparently in your mid 40's your eyes can get stronger, so keep gettin' them checked. Have had glasses since like 6th grade and contacts since like 18 years old. Prescription never changed much.

I wear soft disposable contacts 90% of the time, and have been for like 28 years.

My prescription dropped from -3.25 and -3.0 to -2.25 in both eyes a couple years ago. The other week we dropped the -2.25 eye down to -2.0 and kept the other at -2.25. I have had zero issues seeing as far as I need or want to, and I can do fine at a computer or on my phone.

Really small shit is still hard to read, like the washing instructions on a clothing tag. But I'm not ready for reading glasses just yet for when I'm wearing my contacts. When I wear my glasses I can just quickly take them off to read something that small. Definitely no need for progressives.

Had the Accuvue disposables for a while but switched to BioTrue and like them better. Prescription glasses and shades give my eye a breather from the contacts sometimes.

I got progressive contact lenses. These things are a godsend. It takes some practice to learn to use them (you have to "look through" things for a second to adjust your eyes to see things up close...like those old 3D pictures), but they cut the need to use reading glasses.

I work in IT and have to look at tiny text in tight spaces a lot, so reading glasses were not practical, and I HATE wearing glasses (especially when it's hot out). Plus this face is too damned handsome to cover up with lenses and a frame

For those who hate progressive lenses, I have not been happy with mine for a long time.

They were great for distance, lousy for anything else.

I then noticed that I was wearing my glasses way too low on the bridge of my nose. I raised them up on my nose and brought them closer to my eyes, and now they are working exactly as promised.

This may not work for you, but I hope it helps some.
