No surgery for me, probably ever. Wouldn't ever wanna run the risk of losing my eyesight, no matter how little the risk. I don't mind contacts either, I hardly ever notice them.

the doctor said it could take a month or two for all the night vision to straighten up.

i had -3.5 in both eyes and a 3/4 astigmatism (dont ask me what that means but its what the doctor said)

i wasnt nervous until the day off the surgery when i was waiting the chair about to go into the room.

they give everyone a sedative before so you relax a bit, i got something called attavan (sp?) it made me loopy and not soo anxious

it only takes about 10 minutes total, about a couple miuntes per eye and then they do some tests. it was over pretty quick and it was only slighlty uncomfortable. very worth it in my opinion

damm ... I'm so tempted to go ahead and do it ... it's so annoying to have to put on contacts for sports and remove them when I'm done. How did you find your doctor? I've looked and there are tons of people offering lasik and price ranges widely.

no but i was able to put money into my flexibvle spending acocunt at work which lets me use pre tax dollars so that a big savings right off the bat and because aetna reffered me to the clinic i did it at, aetna took off $750 total off the cost bringing the total to $3200 and $3k of that is pre tax dollars so its really only like ~$1.1k an eye in the end

this is gonna sound a little sh!tty (#3 in paticular) but i did three things when looking for the doctor.

1) I called my hmo and found out if they have any discount programs available, mine did.
2) I got a list of all the doctors who do Wavefront Lasik
3) I called up the ones in the most expensive neighborhoods in my area and did a consultation with them

I figure that the best doctors for an elective surgery like this are probably working in an expensive neighborhood to capatilize on wealthy patients. I.E. would you rather goto a plastic surgeon in beverly hills or one in compton? i used the same logic.

I finally choose a doctor who was very open with me and had a good education and practice.

i didn't really care about the price tag until after i choose my doctor, then i did my best to get the best price.

my friend had his surgery the same day as me and he paid the full $4k post tax dollars out of pocket cause he didnt plan it well.

#3 doesn't sound sh!tty at all.

Everything from my doctor, eye doctor, dentist, car dealership and anything else where I have the choice I go to Beverly Hills for.

Why go to a Ford dealership and sit in a 6'x6' room downtown or in Hollywood watching a black and white TV when I can go to the one in Beverly Hills and sit on a couch and watch color?

Biggest thing for me was waking up in the morning & remembering to not reach for my glasses like I had for the last zillion mornings.
