I was a little short last week and asked my employer for an advance. He had the new girl pay me in cash. Obviously, she forgot to record this as I was paid in full. I'm not going to mention it for fear of getting the new girl in trouble.

One time when I was in college, at a $7/hr job, I accidentally got paid $43/hr. Never said anything, never came back to haunt me.

too bad I only worked ~30 hrs that week

Funny thing was, I picked up the check the day I was leaving for Vegas on spring break!!

This happened in a bank I worked for.

Now I don't know if it was legal or whatever, but I am sure I would not want to take it to court, they skipped a pay period for those on salary that did not report it....those on hourly they adjusted.

No one got fired that I know of.

It may not be illegal but let us look at it this way:

1. Banks will NEVER lose money. Quite simply they aren't that dumb. They make billions of dollars yearly and for good reason. They will always put the charge to your employer. So there is no way that they "absorb" it and your employer doesn't find out.

2. Sooner or later, your employer will noticed that their balance sheet is NOT balancing. Once the bean counter goes through and finds out it is your number, they will tell a higher up person (likely your boss). Your boss will ask you why you didn't report it.

In the end, you will get reamed if you don't report it

Don't spend it of course. I not sure what I would do, I'd probably just sit on it. If they ask you about it just say you don't check your balance very often. I'm sure once they realize they double payed you, the will EFT the funds out of you account as they have the right to do.

That's fine advice. They'll probably just try to suck the money back out of your account. As long as the transaction clears and they get it back, nobody's going to say anything to you at all.

Trouble? Only if you try and keep it. Give them the money back; they'll find it eventually anyway.

The same thing happened to me on my first direct deposit check. My employer figured it before I even had a chance to notice it, & they had the direct deposit pulled back out the same day.

The point is they WILL figure it out, & you will NOT get away with it.

As long as you don't try to you'll be just fine.

BTW, if you had to ask you're a moron.

Just wait for a month or so. If they ask you about it, just say that you didn't notice the direct deposit one... UPS will probably not even notice it.

Um yeah. Sure, it will take time, but when some lowly UPS accountant has trouble balancing the books, they'll see the difference for the amount of $##.## -- and then do a little database search for $##.##. Seriously, the financial folks would find this out - eventually.

If you spend money that's not yours, it's stealing.

Now, ask yourself: can you get in trouble for this?
