The bad thing about going to court, is that you have to go TWICE. You must go on your court date listed on the ticket, but that's just to plead guilty or not-guilty and to set up the actual court date. So that's 2 days off work.

*GROAN*, you've never driven that fast? 90+ on modern highways in a competent car is NOTHING. I can say in my personal life I don't know anybody who consistently goes at, or below the speed limit. It's too low in almost all cases. Heck, the 20 mph zone in front of my house (which was ridiculous) saw such blatant and consistent speeding that they finally raised the limit to 30 instead of constantly trying to screw people with tickets.

Never driven at that speed. No reason to. Cars are to get you from point A to point B period.

I will at times go about 5MPH over posted Freeway/HWY speeds. So many things can happen when driving even on the HWY. Most of the time, it's hard enough to slow or stop at normal HWY speeds. Just because it can do 90MPH doesn't mean you should or even try.

It's not a race track out there.

I've never had to go back a 2nd time. must vary from state to state.

I will admit I've topped 110 on I-96 here near Detroit, but I knew it. Speeding is fun however you gotta pay if you get caught. Tickets suck, so do cops. Good Luck man! My suggestion: Go to court and hopefully the cop won't show up.

Watch out if you are an early am (3-4-5am) speeder...I had a job that required me on I-96 every morning for a year, and they almost always have a couple units on the on-ramps...radar is shielded and pointed away...you=toast. I would see them as I went by in the rearview mirror.

If you guys actually drove the speed limit on the left lane, I will guarantee that I will

1) Tailgate
2) Cut you off at any opportunity
3) High beam
4) If on a bad day, run you off the road

I've seen 18-wheelers do it so that they force the slow-driver almost onto the shoulder and I wouldn't hesitate to do it either.

Go to court and hope the judge lets you off with traffic court. Pay the court costs and leave.

I have to figure out a way to attend traffic school up here for a ticket I got in Nashville over the weekend. Traffic was heavy and I entered an intersection on a yellow and it turned red while I was in the middle of it (it's a *wide* intersection, too). As soon as I got thru, I saw a motorcycle cop come off a side street.

the cop was being nice. i don't know about CA, but in Texas, 25+ over the speed limit is considered reckless. it all depends on how bad the cop wants to screw you.

You sound really young. Good luck with the bullet to your dome after trying those tactics with the wrong person. One day you'll realize it's not worth the extra 3 minutes to end up in a hospital, or worse six feet deep.

exactly, i hate left lane drivers who don't go at least 10+ mph over... especially when they are driving directly next to someone going 1 mph slower than they are

that usually results in 1-4 as J0hnny posted

That's a good way to get you or someone else killed. I hate left lane joyriders as much as anyone, but tailgating, cutting off, forcing off road, etc makes you much worse than them. Grow up.

Defensive Driving? My first speeding ticket I kept off my record by taking defensive driving. Took 6+ hours and 65 dollars but it's not on my record.

Oh...he's proven it before:

I would have first flashed him/her with my high beams, and if that fails, tail them to the point where I might end up causing an accident. If the person on the right actually slows down enough, I'd try cutting into the right lane and then proceed to cutting the person off in the left lane. But I'd make sure to do it really close to the point where he/she would have to make some evasive maneuvers. I'm proud to say I've done this before and have no regrets.

Eh, I would just tailgate them to the point till they change lanes, and if they don't, I find an opening on the right, pass them, curse them out and then cut back into the left lane and either zoom away and pretend nothing happened or do the classic spritz water trick!

If I ever met someone like you, I will make sure to purposely put that persons car into a tailspin and drive away laughing.

But you can call the police on stupid aggressive drivers in SUVs changing lanes like they were in a riced out civic.

Listen to J0hnny about the court stuff... especially if the cop didn't clock you. How the heck did he determine that you were speeding??? It should say on the ticket.

I once was doing 110 on a 55 and got busted as the cop came from behind (which makes me wonder how fast he must have been going) and he clocked me using his odometer, but he lowered my rate of speed drastically so I let it alone and paid the fine. I should have gone to court though because the amount of points ws quilvilent to a DUI which is obsurd.

Don't listed to J0hnny about tailgating, as that is much more dangerous then speeding.

in Connecticut you can be arrested and your car impounded for going 20+ mph over the posted speed limit.
