I once was doing 110 on a 55 and got busted as the cop came from behind (which makes me wonder how fast he must have been going) and he clocked me using his odometer, but he lowered my rate of speed drastically so I let it alone and paid the fine. I should have gone to court though because the amount of points ws quilvilent to a DUI which is obsurd.

Don't listed to J0hnny about tailgating, as that is much more dangerous then speeding.

using his odometer?

Yep, and the faster you go the shorter the time between A and B.

^^^ Definitely go to that site!

That guy has helped a TON of people get out of speeding tickets! It's free, but he asks that if you beat the ticket that you give him a little something... Trust me, I know people that have used his templates to send in and they are exactly what you need to fight the ticket

120+ in a 65mph zone is wreckless.

If you guys actually drove the speed limit on the left lane, I will guarantee that I will

1) Tailgate
2) Cut you off at any opportunity
3) High beam
4) If on a bad day, run you off the road

I've seen 18-wheelers do it so that they force the slow-driver almost onto the shoulder and I wouldn't hesitate to do it either.

Thanks for proving to everyone that you are a complete idiot.

Exactly, he did more to hurt his argument there than any of the "ATOT MORONS" he mentioned above could ever have done.

Ouch. How much was the ticket for?

it doesnt say how much or anyting says 90+ in s a65.. which means he didnt clock me.
cause when he flashed i was going about 75.

Go to court and see if the judge will reduce it. 25mph over the posted speed limit is a bad one IIRC. I would tell the judge that you were going over the limit but you don't think it was that much over. Tell him you looked at the speedo when you saw the police officer flashing his lights and it read 75mph.

Hopefully, the cop won't show up and you'll get off completely.

After I got my first ticket, I talked with a friend of mine who is a retired cop, among other people. Here are the general rules:

0-5 over:
You're almost certainly not going to get pulled over in this range. Of course, now that I've said it, someone is going to post "OMG this asshole cop gave me a ticket for 3 over", but I've never heard of it.
6-14 over:
Most cops won't take the effort of pulling out and chasing you down in this range unless a) the speed limit is under 35, b) its a residental area, or c) you're making yourself a very high profile target (see below)
15+ over:
You're toast.

High-profile targets:
Passing on right or driving constantly in left lane
Out-of-state plates
"Leading the pack" - first car up is most likely to feel the radar gun.
Sports cars
Red/black cars (statistically more likely to get tickets)

In VA, 80 or more is reckless driving in a 65 zone, and 60 or more is reckless in a 35 zone. I'm not sure what the CA laws are, but when you get a ticket for reckless driving in VA, the cop can arrest you at his/her discretion, and if they let you go they inform you that you HAVE to go to court and CANNOT prepay the ticket.

Driving education classes typically are limited to those under a certain number of mph over the limit, and I can guarantee you exceeded it. Go in and beg for mercy.

Edit: By the way, 20 mph over the limit is about a $1500 hike in your yearly insurance. 25 mph is going to hurt even worse. Plead with the judge to knock it down a few mph. If you were polite to the cop and take the time to go to court, they'll show you some mercy.

I know here in MA it is something like $50 for the first 5 miles over the limit and then $10 a mile for every mile over that....so 90 in a 65 would cost about 250 give or take, plus they can write you up for other small offenses which they usually do at the time...

It?s a good thing you do not live in Virginia. I got busted for doing 98 in a 55. I was taking my roommates S2000 for a test drive at 0130. I was the only car on the road at the time. Went to court and got a $1000 fine 500 of it suspended and 30 days jail 24 days suspended. I talked the judge in to letting me do the time over the weekends so I could work to pay the fine. The worst part was the people that had DUI's got off with less then me.
edit: forgot to add that i had not had any driving offences in all most 4 years.

Heh. I'm sure he will one of these days, if he actually drives like that...

Pay the fine, do traffic school if you're eligible - and next time you're "hungry & depressed" slow the fvck down....

Oh come on....arrest? I've got two tickets for over 100mph..one in a 55, one in a 65...no arrest. I went to court, paid my fine and lost my license for 10 days...that's about it.

Some states, 25 over the posted limit is "reckless driving" or "exhibition of speed" and WILL get you arrested.

I think that's how it is in Texas (or is it 20 over? I forget). I've gotten one and only one speeding ticket, in November 2003 when I was heading back home for Thanksgiving. I'd been stuck behind some slow cars doing like 50-55 (speed limit was 65), so I floored it to pass them when the road briefly opened up to two lanes in each direction. I know I hit over 90, but then I saw the police car sitting under the overpass waiting. I slammed on the brakes, saw his lights come on, and I pulled over. He only clocked me doing 83 in a 65, which was fortunate - two mph faster and I wouldn't have been able to get the ticket off my record with defensive driving school.

I don't speed nearly so much anymore.

I kind of agree that speed limits could stand to be higher, but hey, laws are laws...

COming home yesterday playing catchup with a g35, whipped past and i wound it up to about 110, and a moto cop was heading the opp way on a divided 4 lane rd. He whips on the sirens and lights, but he doesnt have a turn around to get across the median for another 400+ yards, so..... VROOOOOOMMMMM off close the electronic exhaust cutouts and glide into a subdivision for 10 minutes

I know I am a dumbass, but 'tever

500+ hp makes my day. Every day.

how what? can I get traffic school for this?? this is my first ticket, how much will it hurt me??

I was pulled over for doing 75 in a 55. I got it reduced to 14mph over. If it is your first and only ticket, I was just told by my insurance company they "overlook" that.

I did 95+ in a 70 (I-5, somewhere in the middle of CA, it all look the same). The fine was $278. No traffic school for me since it was too fast. One point on record. No insurance increase. Save yourself the hassle of trying to file court papers or showing up to court and pay the cash and learn a lesson. That's what I did.

Depends what state you're in.

If you're in California, it then becomes dependent on what ticket you got. If it's a regular speeding ticket, that's 1pt, you will lose roughly $300 to pay the ticket and go to traffic school where that 1pt will disappear forever and as long as you don't get another ticket in 18 months, it will remain a distant memory. On the other hand if it was reckless driving/exhibition of speed, that's 2pts and you're fux0red...
