Battery life is 6hrs with Ridge Racer and more with less intensive games.[/b]
I got my PSP
Ordered it and got it within 2 days from HongKong to UK.
I got it off www.play-asia.com (btw I do not work for them) just a heads up for people who are thinking of getting it from somewhere. You could try ebay as some people have gotten some good deals.
Price: £263 $499.99 (includes the VALUE pack which has; remote, headphones, 32mb MS Pro Duo card, soft case and strap) and I got Ridge Racer the game with it also.
I also bought Vamprie Chronicles to play for £32 $59.99 also and delivery from HongKong to UK was £15 $29
The value pack is going to be about £200 in England, and the games at least £30-£35. So at the end of the day isn't too bad paying £310 for 2 games and 3 months ahead of release date
First the PSP it built very well imo. Everything fits tight and flush. It really well designed imo. Fits well in the hand and is a good 'thickness' and not too thick.
The first thing that stuck me was the size and the beautiful screen. 16:9 4'3 LCD that runs 480x272 resolution!
It is VERY EASY to change from Japanese to English in the menu. It is one of the first thing you do.
Ridge Racer looks AMAZING and I have no trouble saying it is on a par with the PS2 version with LESS DETAILED TEXTURE AND lower polygon count. The screen is much smaller then the a normal tv so the resolution loss in the texture doesn't matter.
Looking at review sites and the videos does not do it justic. It simply looks stunning and I can't wait for GT4m to be on it. Ridge Racer is 'fun' for a bit but the driving style is not my thing. I have loved GT since the first version and that is the killer game for me.
Non Gaming features
Mp3 playback
The mp3 playback sounds good apart from the volume isn't loud enough for me. It is about 75% of what I am use to but I have an iPod so it will only be used for backup for when the iPod has left me shafted with it's battery life.
No support for .m3u play lists also. Would be nice though.
At the moment you have to put your mp3's in to a folder and you can then select from the folder to play.
Photo viewer
It can view photo's. I didn't know this so it was a nice suprise. The 480x272 resolution 16:9 does a great job at displaying images. It can support up to 5MP and beyond but I have not tested beyond 5MP myself. You can view it so that the image fill the 16:9 screen so you lose the top and the bottom. You can zoom in to the image up to 200% and you can also move around the image. Looks very good soo you can use it as a photo viewer and it can do a slide show
Video Playback
It looks very good. The screen really does shine here. You will need a big MS Duo Pro card though.
Details go here to http://video2psp.com/ to read about it.
Currently you can't encode to the native resolution and get it to work. You can get 320x240/ 29.97fps/ 768kpbs sterio/128kpbs
4mb ~ 1minute of encoding but you have a few settings to choose from though[/b]

I am happy. I probably wouldn't have gotten one this early if I did not commute but I do so it will kill time on the train for me
Transfer through usb 2.0 to PSP
220Mb of 4 files took 1min23seconds so that isn't too bad imo.

I left them at a some what big size so you can see the quality of it. If you resize it down so that the screen is about 4'3 inches across it looks much better. But once you see it running it makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
