I went through a major burglary. To the tune of almost $50k and that was when I was making 50% of what I make now.
For one, jewelry is capped at a few hundred bucks, same with cash. You need to have separate policies on your jewelry and that ends up being a waste unless it's you are dealing with $12k pieces at the bottom end.
In a major burglary, pictures and video only go so far. The adjuster/underwriter/et al will demand receipts. Fortunately at the time I had all my email confirmations and bought almost exclusively online. I ended up having to prepare a 300 page document and spend 6 months to get my money.
In the end, due to almost shopping entirely online and taking a ton of pictures along the way (thanks to my ex-wife's hobby of photographing our pets). I was able to settle to the limits I had.
Things I learned from this, insurance companies will insert riders that look just like what you already read...somewhere in the middle they will place limits on that coverage you thought you had.
