I got to drive a brand new GX 460 for a day.

Got it as a loaner. 80 miles on the odo.

I have to say - I was quite impressed. Very smooth and quiet, with plenty of power, decent tech. Of course, being a Lexus, the driving experience is a little detached but I'm used to that.

I might have to look at some pre-owned ones (I'm still in the market for an SUV). I know they hold their value well so probably no bargains to be had.

I'm assuming this would probably be in the ballpark of what I could expect:

I own a 2014. It sucks for me. My wife loves it, however she would go back to her prius in a minute if that tells you anything. She sold her prius to her cousin and misses it dearly. She said last week if she could do it all over again she would have kept the prius instead of the SUV.

We bought it from her parents when their lease ended to house a newborn.

I personally hate it because the seats are not comfortable long term. I am 6 foot and fairly broad shouldered. After about a haf hour my back starts acting up. That is with all toyota products. I tried to buy toyota last year for my vehicle and I could not get past the seats. Hondas work for me. Secondly, there are little things that just don't work make sense. You can't control the back passengers AC other than turn it on. We bought the car for our newborn and I have to get out of the car and go to the back seat to make sure the temperature and fan settings are correct. Not a big deal but super annoying. Tech package is terrible, rearview camera guide doesn't change when your turning your wheel. at 60k it should do that. The USB ports are super weak. Barely get a decent charge from it. If I am running maps it charges extremely slow. The AC mutizone controls are incredibly inefficient to mess with.

For the size of the vehicle it has very little interior space compared to something like an explorer. I am not sure if the calculations of interior will tell you that but the way it is shaped limits the amount of cargo you put in it. The gas mileage is also terrible, in South Florida a fill up at Costco costs around 70 bucks. This thing destroys gas, worse than my nissan titan. If my wifes company did not pay for her gas that alone would make us sell it.

The one positive note is it does look amazing. I really think it is something special from that perspective. Not a popular opinion but I think it looks more refined than an escalade.

If you are serious about getting one I would get a used one. The news ones are the exact same thing. Her mother leased another one and we can't tell the difference between the two. Rent one off of turo for a month and see how you like it. We were in a rush to buy it with the baby and I wish I would have done our research

I've got a Toyota 4Runner... It's not exactly the same, but they have similar body style and similar poor use of space. My biggest complaint is how deceptively small the interior of the 4Runner and 460s are. I'm really too dirty to invest in a Lexus. I'd tear the thing up.

My former supervisor bought a 2018 from a coworker about 8 months ago and was pretty pleased with it. It definitely rides well and has lots of bells/whistles.

4Runner rides really tough compared to GX460. I helped my sister buy used GX460 couple months ago, and I had her test drive the new 4Runner as well. She hated the ride of the 4Runner and I didn't think it was that great either. It still drove and rode like a truck. GX460 is much smoother and rides plush in comparison. And GX460 interior is luxurious compared to hard rubber and plastic interior of the 4Runner. GX460 is worth the extra money over the 4Runner.

The runner is supposed to come across as more utilitarian. GX460 has the utility and luxury to match the price.

Having said that the platform is basically the same thing but the front end of the 460 hurts my eyes.

The 4Runner and 470/460 of comparable years are based on the same chassis/running gear.

The GXs hold their value worse than their 4Runner brethren. Reasonable used GXs are far more common than reasonable used 4Runners. I got a 2006 GX470 Sport about two years ago and it runs/drives like damn near new. I can't really tell that it has 200k miles on it now. The GXs wear so well compared to other vehicles that you can get an older model year GX with higher miles and have a vehicle in similar condition to other makes/models that are younger and more expensive.

I'm hauling kids and tools and stuff in my 4Runner (not for work, but because I'm very manly). My kids would destroy a luxury car.

My 4Runner is a 2011, 2WD SR5 with 3rd row seating, running boards, and I had the dealership install leather seats (rather than paying $4k for the 4WD package that had them). Without the leather seats, the 4Runner felt more sporty....with them, it feels more sophisticated/polished. The seat cushions and suspension are still the same though, but without 4WD curb weight is a little lower.

If I haven't destroyed mine yet, I don't think your kids would
