I went to the doctor thinking I had a stomach virus. They gave me medicine for my vomiting and suggested I go to the hospital as it could be a blood clot in my lungs as I was short of brathe as well or Pneumonia. As they were getting me ready for CT Scan they ran some blood tests and saw that my heart enzymes were at 33 and should be between 0.3 and 1.3. They sent me up for an arteriogram and found I needed the 5 bypasses. I was out for over 4 days and didn't know what was actually done to me until the 5th day. Most of this is genetics and the other part of course was diet and lack of exercise. I am now watching what I eat and I am walking everyday. I will start cardiac rehab in acouple of weeks that will be a 3 times a week program for 36 sessions. I will then join a gym and continue to work out. This has been a life changing experience for sure. Once I was through the surgery and in my own room the nurse told my wife at one point my body was trying to die. That is why they had to use the balloon to keep my heart pumping and they kept me asleep for so long.

I thank God for allowing me more time on this earth with my wife and kids and I know he has a purpose for me. This is the second year in a row I have lived through something tragic. Last year I had staph and strep infection in my foot that was spreading quckly and it is now helaed, actully the surgeon relaeased me from my foot the Friday before I had a heart attack on Sunday.

Yes, God gave you a genetic defect for a reason, so that you may thank him when the doctors fixed you up.

Ok I'll go back to my corner now.

Wow.

If you're serious and not trolling, I wish the best for you. Take your second chance and use it well, today is the first day of the rest of your life. Start a workout log in the H&F forum. Make the best for your wife and kids. GL and hope all goes well.

Wow that's crazy. So you had no idea you even had heart issues and they did this as an emergency bypass? That's was quite a surprise to wake up from that I'm sure.

My dad got a quadruple bypass a couple years back. It's quite something to go through. It was also a bit scary being at the hospital while it was being done. I was able to get the time off so I went with my mom and sister. I knew God was with him and that all would go well, and it did.

How old are you? Lots of KFC or what? Let us know so we will know what to avoid.

In my dad's case, it was lot of KFC. That stuff will plug you right up! Once he was actually in the hospital for his heart (not the bypass, but think an angiogram or something) and there he was, eating a big piece of chicken on is bed LOL. Sometimes it's hard to let go.

This is making me hungry for some fried chicken.

There is a time and a place for your ignorant trolling. This thread by a long-time member announcing he has survived a life-threatening situation is neither the time nor the place.

Wow, glad to hear that as one of the AT originals, you beat the reaper!

May you now live long enough to bore your great-grandchildren with stories of overclocking the mighty celly 300!

One question, do I read the above right? Did they remove your foot?

In the land of trolls, the truth is trolling... Doctors dedicate their lives to healing and save this man not once but twice. However, when he speaks out about it, not a word of thanks towards them.

This irrelevant side discussion ends here and now. Got it?

Glad to hear that you are ok and get to spend more time with your family.

I am curious to know what type(s) of medications you will take for how long if you are willing to share. Heart disease runs in my dad's family, I had high cholesterol at 27 and have been on lipitor and now crestor. I just got the gene for it so I know how that part feels.

Glad you're okay.. Every day is precious.

I watched a 54yo coworker go from looking like imminent death by heart attack 60yo to healthy 45yo after he had a health scare.. in less than a year with diet and exercise.

Glad you hear you're ok man. I went through something similar with a high enzyme count (155), but it turned out to be pancreatitis. Scary stuff.

It's truly sad that people on here can't respect your faith though. Heaven (Yes, heaven) forbid that they congratulate you on your survival. But don't worry, they'll be dealt with by the gread Mod in the sky.

why not just run and exercise first to see if it would help bring your levels down? surgery could have been avoided

My dad had quadruple bypass after a small heart attack. He has never been overweight and mostly a vegetarian. He had some complication due to a major hospital screwup and had to be flown to a hospital that had a good heart-lung bypass machine. He was in an induced coma for a few weeks before he recovered. It's been over 6 years and he seems to be much more relaxed and concentrates on having fun with his grandkids.

My total cholesterol is just over 200 even though I watch what I eat (mostly) and exercise at least 4 times a week.

The word you're looking for is 'quintuple'.

That's rough though man. Glad you pulled through.
