that's crazy. Especially when you say you are overweight but not obese. If you look at a BMI chart it seems like everyone is overweight. I look skinny, but I'm 6'4" and weigh around 215, so I'm overweight. :<

I'm glad u r OK too.

This makes me want to call and get a physical. What kind of screening tools are there for heart blockage? A cardiogram? I want to know what kinds of tests I should demand.

Good luck OP. Keep us posted on your progress.

Congrats and good luck, BAMAVOO. I've had a few (7) heart surgeries myself, so I can relate. Not due to blocked arteries, just other things and crappy luck. I'm 35, and I'm working on decreasing the stress in my life. Although you wouldn't know it if you knew me. .

Anyway, glad you're still here and the docs were able to fix you up.

Go troll someplace else

Seriously people, get this one thing straight - God uses means to accomplish things - uses doctors and all that stuff. Not some wowie-zowie "BAM healed!" miracle.

So thank the doctors, and thank God for the doctors.

Sorry to hear that - Hospitals are scary places. Get well soon. Also I didn't read anything in this thread.

if the dude wants to thank god, why can't he do so without being questioned?
It really is some kind of sickness or personality issue. It really burns these people up, gets deep under their skin, that someone else has different spiritual beliefs than they do.

Maybe they were the favorite "choir boy" of their priest/pastor/minister/deacon in their childhood? They just seem really angry about something, so much that they can't let it rest.

I'm atheist but I don't go around asking "Why the fuck do you go to church/pray/believe in God?" as though it makes me angry or something.

Damn. Lucky it was found because of Nausea and not a massive Heart Attack.

I had a bad heart attack, my enzymes were at 33 and should have been between 0.3 and 1.3. I had so many people praying for me across so many states, it really was a miracle. People can beleive what they want, this time I know for certain.

.

If you want a non-invasive study and are willing to risk a bit of radiation, get a coronary CT angiogram. It's a great study for people with low risk of disease.

Okay OP don't take this wrong but I'm a firm believer that people need a good slap in the face to wake them up. You got a kick in the balls. Thought it's unfortunate that you had to go through something of that nature at such a young age I hope that it was a huge wakeup call for you and you'll continue to change your eating habits and get some exercise in your life.

Good to hear you pulled through it okay. That's a doozy of an operation.

What kind of fucking nurse tells your wife your body is trying to die?

You know, sounds harsh, but I tell you what I bet his wife will be very angry with him if he starts back on the path of poor health. I can guarantee she doesn't want to go through something like that again.

good luck to you. do what you need to do to be there for your family. As for all the rest of you, life is short. It's later then you think.

How does his wife caring about him have anything to do with the nurse saying stupid shit? Your body doesn't 'try to die'. In fact, its trying to live, constantly. Its not something you say that helps someone in any way and I would of told the nurse to not go near any of my family with her 'wisdom' again.

You say they have some sort of sickness or personality issue, then go and try and insinuate some sort of sexual scenario in their past. Yeah, it doesnt sounds like youre the one with issues at all here...:hmm:

Its just sound logic and psychosocial analysis. When someone reacts so angrily or feels compelled to inject their unsolicited opinion in response to something as innocuous, generic, and nearly universal as someone who feels compelled to "thank God" for being alive after a severe illness or injury, it strongly suggests there is some very deep personal or emotional connection there causing these feeling in them. Hell, even non-religious people can often be found using this expression as a customary figure of speech.

For the massive number of atheists out there who just seem as though they literally cannot stop themselves from attacking, marginalizing, or insulting others with different spiritual beliefs, what other explanation is there? They are still really deeply angry because they weren't given their favorite part in the church play? They mistakenly put a $20 bill instead of a $10 in the tithing plate, and the church wouldn't give them their $10 back?

The kind of seething bitterness or resentment demonstrated by many atheists goes much deeper and personal than such trivial grievances.

I'd say the worse insult is to the doctor, where the implication is either that the doctor is a puppet, who's failures or successes as a physician are predicated upon a supernatural deity (imagine them trying to say that in court..lol) or that the doctor himself didn't really do anything, and only this magical father figure ensured his survival.

ie load of crock.

I think the OP also made it very clear that he was literally thanking God, and not as a figure of speech. I was going to stop posting after you attempted to psychoanalyze a random post and went off the deep end, but I thought you might benefit from a little correction.

Anyways, glad the OP made it through, many more years ahead of you, yadda yadda. And thank God that the surgeon was able to save you.

So let the doctor speak for himself. And as someone who worked in surgery for several years, I can tell you 95% of surgeons would never find this insulting in the least. The other 5% are the really arrogant/narcissistic doctors who really DO think of themselves in God-like terms. Its not the responsibility of atheists to advocate on behalf of those who they think MIGHT be offended when people give credit to God.

Wow that's crazy. So you had no idea you even had heart issues and they did this as an emergency bypass? That's was quite a surprise to wake up from that I'm sure.

My dad got a quadruple bypass a couple years back. It's quite something to go through. It was also a bit scary being at the hospital while it was being done. I was able to get the time off so I went with my mom and sister. I knew God was with him and that all would go well, and it did.

It's very common for someone to come into the hospital for a pre-surgical work-up for something minor and end up having urgent cardiac procedures done.

Wow this is a lot to have to go trough at 40. There must have been a family history and some big warning signs.
How did you end up with diabetes?

As for me, I do have some blockages but nothing requiring surgery for now and I am 52. I never paid much attention to my diet but I did exercise most of my life.

I am now waiting for my second hip replacement surgery. My first one was 14 years ago due to a medical mistake.

I am not looking forward to this. It's a waiting game up here in Canada.

I can't really complain, It could be worst, I could have been watching the twin tower attack while fapping and be scarred for life.

LOL

Anyway, good luck, keep up the walking and watch that diet.

I am glad you are doing well. Thanks for sharing your story with us! My Dad had quad-bypass several years ago in his mid-fifties; suffered a severe heart attack and barely survived, and his surgery probably added 20 years to his life.

Keep on keeping on
