I had it done a little more than 4 years ago. My vision was blurry as hell when I left the surgeon. I went home, took a couple hour nap, and woke up to perfect vision. I do have some very minor reduced visibility in the dark I've noticed and minor issues with the light halos that also only affect me at night. However, this hasn't been bad enough to even minorly hinder my nighttime driving. Only thing it does is make my eyes hurt a little when driving at night in the rain with all the headlights reflecting off the water on the ground.

I have all the problems mentioned and I havent even had this done. I see halos, double vision, cannot drive at night because of the glare, and dont ever ask me to drive at night in the rain for it makes it 300x worse for me. Think I be ok with getting this done and reversing all the problems now?

The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

This website is very misleading.

1. They say the flap never heals. Bullshit, my optometrist has to really look to see the flap anymore when using his magnifyling glass with that eye burning halo of light tool. Its healed, it has a very minor scar, but you don't see it when looking out of your eye. You cannot see it with your naked eye.

2. 20% to 30% (1 out of 5) of LASIK patients will experience severe "Adverse Events" -or- "Permanent Complications."
Thats a pretty broad statement and can encompass a large range of conditions. They need to break down what they mean. Some may think that dry eyes are a complication when they had them with contacts to begin..

3. Those people getting LASIK desire to avoid the hassles of "contact lenses" and "glasses"only to find that they have jumped out of the "frying pan" and into the "raging inferno."
I've had several friends get LASIK or PRK or Wavefront and have not had any ill effects. I tend to think this is the norm.

4. Many LASIK patients have been sued by their own LASIK physicians
Hmm, sounds like pretty much any practicing surgeon anywhere in the world.

And more and more.. just a bunch of horseshit.

eh? am I reading #4 wrong?

i agree. The Lasik office i went to had done 90K procedures since 1999. they are well established and have corrected the vision of people like John Elway. the part about the flap never healing is bullshit. the clinic has done several top ranked MMA fighters and if the flap didnt heal the first time one of those guys got kicked in the head or slammed on the mat their the flap would be knocked loose. that just isnt the case.

I think we're probably in the same age group so this may apply to you as well. I'd love to get it done, but the end result would be that I'd need glasses for reading. I'm nearsighted right now, but If I got corrective surgery, my distance vision would be corrected but I wouldn't be able to see anything up close at all and would have to have reading glasses with me at all times.

Kind of negates the whole procedure in my mind. The end result is I'd still need glasses.

Actually, it is the opposite.

You would not need glasses to drive or while you are walking about. Also, depending on your age, you would most likely need bifocals in a few years anyway.

So, I have had no problem with either, but if this accelerates the stiffening of my lens to where I need reading glasses 5 years earlier, so be it. At least I have 15 years of clear vision AND no need for Bifocals!

I'd be tempted to do this but since I only have two eyes and can't get any more if they mess it up, I'll wear glasses.

Yea so used to glasses by this point that it's not a big deal. It's not even the worst case scenarios that scare me, just things like night vision and light sensitivity are things I don't want to have to deal with. I'll wait for nanos, they'll fix everything.

I agree its a bit over the top. Of course its written by someone who had some sort of problem so he spins things back that way.

Every surgical procedure has some element of risk.

In my personal case - I know exactly how precious my vision is to me and how awesome it is to see. I'm very nearsighted and am able to be corrected with soft lenses (torics). In my opinion thats enough.

Wearing contacts has its own risks, but millions and millions of people do it every day. Its not a relatively new thing (like LASIK is). I've heard of folks having trouble post-LASIK and I met a number of them. Granted they are likely the exception rather than the rule.

In my personal case, I'll take the smaller risk and greater inconvenience. I'm sorry my vision is just too precious to fool with.

Are you sure the fighters didn't have PRK? The flap issues are real. Thats why the airforce only accepts pilots who have had PRK and not Lasik.

LASIK screwed up my left eye. I have bad ghosting and have to wear a rgp contact to fix it. I wish I never got LASIK. It was not "bad enough" to warrant redoing either soi am stuck with the contact. At least it works.
Note that I already had it twice to both eyes as well.
And I dont think the flap does heal but that doesn't mean you can see it. If you get LASIK again they reopen the same flap.

I don't want to belabor the point, but if I had LASIK or a PRK procedure to correct my distance vision, I could only read with glasses. The point was that I would need to have glasses with me all the time in case I needed to read. It's just easier to wear them than to carry them. I think we're actually on the same page on this, but my description wasn't as clear as it could have been.

I'm wearing bifocals right now so that's where I'm coming from. I can read just fine without my glasses now, but that would be lost if my corneas were altered for long distance correction.

Every surgical procedure has some element of risk.

QFT. I went endo on a quad several years ago and broke my wrist. The fracture ended up being in the scaphoid bone, which carries a lot of blood flow to the hand. The ortho basically said we can cut you or cast you. If we cast you you'll be in a fingertip to armpit cast for 6 months and then a wrist to elbow cast for another 6 months. If it goes well the bone will re-fuse and you avoid surgery and save money. If it goes poorly the bone will become necrotic and we will have to amputate your hand. If we cut you I'll use a screw to reattach the bone fragment and you'll be in a brace with a metal plate for a few months. If all goes well you'll be healed 5x as fast. If it goes poorly we'll have to cut again and you may lose your hand.

I made the choice to get cut after knowing the risk. All surgery, even something minor like setting a fracture, has risk. Dude that owns the website strikes me as someone who didn't do their homework and got burned and now refuses to take responsibility for his failure.

the surgery is still not 100% guaranteed; sad truth.

the best you can do is train your mind to let your body do the healing after taking the "best" care of yourself.
