my right eye is pretty good but my left eye and the one that had the most correction done is not so good. I cant read my monitor that is about 2 feet away and the star burst on lights at night is pretty annoying. i go back for my second follow up tomorrow so i will be letting him know im kinda concerned about my left eye.

who else has had LASIK and how long did it take you to heal?

update: i spoke with the surgeon a couple of hours ago and he thinks that the flap may need a bit of an adjustment and he will examine it in detail tomorrow for my scheduled appointment. I had the procedure done on sat so Sunday morning i went in for my follow up and my right eye is 20/15 but my left is 20/50, he had me increase the steroid drops to every 2 hours for sun and mon and go back to every 4 hours for the rest of the week. So i hope the flap is a little off and he is able to correct this tomorrow.

I'd be tempted to do this but since I only have two eyes and can't get any more if they mess it up, I'll wear glasses.

Something is messed up.. I would go back asap and have the doc look at it. I noticed an improvement right away with no blurriness, and the "halos" went away after 4-5 days.

You have cancer.

Oh sorry, wrong response.

I had LASIK back in 2001 and the results were immediately clear. It was never blurry after the procedure was over. Just had halos for a few nights.

Did they use blades or laser to slice your cornea? I had blades and I recall that my left eye they did first and they just went and did it right away and then for the right eye they were like oh lets change the blade and it turns out my right eye is sharper than my left. Right side 20/20 left side 20/40. I think its the blade but who knows

they used a laser to make the cut.

the doctors office just called to confirm my appt for tomorrow and asked to speak to one of the docs about this. she is going to pull my file and have the doc call me.

that's EXACTLY my thought. When I went for a few consults, only ONE place told me the recommendation was to do one eye at a time to ensure if there was a problem, you would at least have one good eye for vision. Any place that did both at once was a hackjob and should be skipped.
You have cancer.

It's Lupus.

It should have healed after a day or two, sounds like they fubared your eye.

Not necessarily. If he had bad astigmatism and needed a lot of correction, there will be more scar tissue that needs to heal.

My eyes took quite awhile to get better, close to a month to fully heal if not more.

I want to do this eventually, but my eyes are changing enough that I need new glasses every year so it'll probably be a while.

I had LASIK done a couple years back. I was able to drive without trouble after about 2 days, but the day after was pretty blurry. Sounds like they need to take a look at your eye.

It took several days to heal up to where I didn't need to put eye drops in every 15 minutes.

Had mine done about 10 years ago. Astigmatism.

Had both done at the same time, it was not a $299/eye special either (cost me $3500). Anyway, the first few days were off, a bit blurry, but sharper than I had ever had w/glasses.

I still get days when I rub my eyes and they blur for a bit (I do not know if that was because of a thinning of the tissues in the eye or not...)

Also, I know they used a digital system merely because the fuzzy-halos around lights (you will still get some, but less so than contacts or glasses) seemed "pixelated"... Kind of like watching static with a super-fine fly-lens.....

This has become les and less apparent over the years (by regrowth, balance, or just getting used to it) but it was a bit disconcerting at the time.

Best money I have spent in a long time. No contacts or glasses for 10 years makes a difference in sports and life, and I see better with Lasik than I ever did with lenses (From Hoboken I could see individual lights from the windows in Manhattan.... I could not COUNT them, but I saw them as tiny squares! )

On that note, GL at the appointment!

Yeah I get that too - if I apply light pressure to my eyes (pressing on my eye lids when closed) and then let go and open my eyes it is blurry and take a few moments for everything to focus.

I have two other side effects I have noticed since my operation:

1) close-up vision sucks. Starting at about 6" from my face objects start to blur and become annoying to look at. If I bring the object 3" or close it gets really annoying as I cant focus at all on it.

2) floaters. especially if I go to a place with a large clear white surface (like a ceiling) and quickly move my eyes back and forth I see what appears to be tiny string like fragments in my vision. It takes quite a bit of effort to see them though it never bothers me day-to-day

But I have absolutely no regrets doing it. Best thing I have ever done! Its total freedom breaking away from the shitty glasses I had to wear. Waking up in the morning, swimming/showering, enjoying outdoors is all vastly improved without having to wear glasses

I had lasik recently in July. I had the same issues in my left eye. It was more fuzzy/blurry than my right eye. The doc told me that everyone heals differently. Some take weeks others take up to a year. His advice was to double up on the eyedrops they provide and come back in one week. Not much changed so he said lets do this for another week. By the end of the two weeks i was seeing much better out of the left eye. The doc explained to me that it's possible the was leftover chemicals from the procedure under the flap, that can easily be flushed out by the drops and the artificial tears (more drops) that your likely taking. Just keep on top of it and give it time. Best of luck!

I've been waiting for the 10 year data.

then the 15 year data.

now I'm waiting for the 20 year data.

I think we're probably in the same age group so this may apply to you as well. I'd love to get it done, but the end result would be that I'd need glasses for reading. I'm nearsighted right now, but If I got corrective surgery, my distance vision would be corrected but I wouldn't be able to see anything up close at all and would have to have reading glasses with me at all times.

Kind of negates the whole procedure in my mind. The end result is I'd still need glasses.

How much did these surgeries of yours cost? I am looking to get my eyes lasered and don't know if I can afford it.

Thanks, and best of luck getting your vision back in prime condition.

My friend's also took a LONG time. He had to go back several times to have it checked but he knew going in that his eyes were going to be more diffucult than normal.

I had it done a little more than 4 years ago. My vision was blurry as hell when I left the surgeon. I went home, took a couple hour nap, and woke up to perfect vision. I do have some very minor reduced visibility in the dark I've noticed and minor issues with the light halos that also only affect me at night. However, this hasn't been bad enough to even minorly hinder my nighttime driving. Only thing it does is make my eyes hurt a little when driving at night in the rain with all the headlights reflecting off the water on the ground.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

This website is very misleading.

1. They say the flap never heals. Bullshit, my optometrist has to really look to see the flap anymore when using his magnifyling glass with that eye burning halo of light tool. Its healed, it has a very minor scar, but you don't see it when looking out of your eye. You cannot see it with your naked eye.

2. 20% to 30% (1 out of 5) of LASIK patients will experience severe "Adverse Events" -or- "Permanent Complications."
Thats a pretty broad statement and can encompass a large range of conditions. They need to break down what they mean. Some may think that dry eyes are a complication when they had them with contacts to begin..

3. Those people getting LASIK desire to avoid the hassles of "contact lenses" and "glasses"only to find that they have jumped out of the "frying pan" and into the "raging inferno."
I've had several friends get LASIK or PRK or Wavefront and have not had any ill effects. I tend to think this is the norm.

4. Many LASIK patients have been sued by their own LASIK physicians
Hmm, sounds like pretty much any practicing surgeon anywhere in the world.

And more and more.. just a bunch of horseshit.
