Ok...
I have ATI Radeon X1600 wth Omega 3.8.273 drivers...
Monitor is Philips 190X6FB...

For some stupid reason refresh rate for Administrator login (which I use) keeps reverting back to 60hz either after monitor goes in sleep mode or I switch users with my wife...
For her it's always 75hz and it doesn't change...
When I switch user monitor also goes in sleep mode for 3-4 seconds...

I have tried Driver Cleaner Pro to reinstall the drivers and also have tried RefreshFix 0.9.9.7 but to no avail...

Has anyone have a clue how to fix this???
This thing is getting to be annoying as hell...I have to switch refresh rates 10 times a day when I want to use the computer...

PLEASE HELP!

Do you have the monitor driver installed? Is the EDID data correct for your monitor? I'm not familiar with the Omega drivers, but you can force the refresh rate in the Catalyst control panel, and/or place the proper values in the monitor attributes if the EDID info is wrong.

It is a digital display, correct?

Yes it's digital display...

Well I installed Catalyst 6.9 now and it seems to be working...last time I installed them it didn't...
God I hate ATI, Nvidia owns...never buying ATI again...

Thanks for help though...

You had Omega drivers when you were having the issue and ATI is to blame? And now you've installed the Cat 6.9's and the problem is gone, but ATI sucks?

In your video card range I would have gone with a 7600GT though.

I had Catalyst 6.7 or 6.8 (6.8 I believe) and had probs with that, then instaled 6.9 and still had the same probs...
Uninstalled ATI drivers, did Driver Cleaner, then installed Omega, nothing changed, did Driver Cleaner again and installed 6.9 again and now it works...

Hope that answers your question...

I could not get a simple 1680x1050 res setting with the official ATI drivers and I tried everything from monitor drivers to powerstrip etc....,I had to use latest Omega drivers, don't ask me why since I have no problem with Nvidia drivers on my other PC at this res.

Ah, I see. Obviously there was a driver conflict somewhere since after using the Driver cleaner and installing a set of certified ones the problems went away. I didn't mean to come off blunt, but just a couple months ago there was a guy who was complaining how ATI sucked because he installed a set of drivers from ATI that wasn't compatible with his 9250. As long as you use DriverCleaner Pro in safe mode when switching out drivers, you'll never have to worry about driver conflicts.

My guess is you were trying to set the resolution at 1680x1050 while having a greater than 60Hz refresh rate set somewhere else. I've went through drivers ranging from 6.3 to 6.9's, Omega's, XG WarCat's, and WHQL abroad with an X1900XTX, 9250, X1900GT, X1900XT, and an X1950XTX and I have never had that issue.

Wrong!!! first thing I checked was 60Hz setting, which it was set at anyway.

I have been installing drivers for years now(almost 10 years),anyway Omega drivers had no problem, fact is ATI 6.9s I had installed never gave me an option for 1680x1050 setting at all(only 1600x1200 or 1360x1024) which is no good for me even after I selected show all unsupported options too and checking refresh was at 60Hz.

Installing monitor drivers made no difference with Cats 6.9s,so I installed the Omega drivers and there was the 1680x1050 setting option right away.

I only found the solution to fixing it while checking Google and reading threads on some other users that had same the problem and used Omega drivers to fix it.

Oh, so this was a Cat 6.9 specific problem? Sorry. I thought you meant that you haven't got that to work with any ATI card or driver.

I had the same problem too with 6.8s,that is why I tried 6.9s with no luck ,anyway Omega drivers fixed the problem.

I might send a bug report in to ATI,could just be a bug with my monitor and official ATI drivers, but does not explain why Omega drivers work fine, guess Omega drivers are more polished then standard official ATI drivers.

End of the day if Nvidia and Omega can get it right and ATI can't, must be a bug on their side somewhere.

I've actually had similar problems with Cat v6.6 "Chuck" drivers except the refresh rate was defaulting to 60hz in games & getting locked in properly in all other apps... the best way I've found to correct it is a free program called Refreshlock which has been around since the days of NT & allows you to lock refresh rates for individual resolutions & color-depths.

Having said this, Nvidia does do a much better job with moniter adjustments in their drivers then ATI does.

Ahh, we all know ATI drivers are crappy at best. That's why we all love Ray Adams so much.

Weird, I never have problem 1 with ATI's drivers, quite the opposite actually. I went from a 17" LCD to a Samsung 215TW and had no problems with setting 1680x1050. Centerd timings even work for me.... Lucky I guess, or maybe because my system has never been infected with nvidia drivers that refuse to properly and completely remove themselves from the system?

The best way to fix this refresh rate issue in general is to modify your monitor driver (inf file) with all the low refresh modes removed. Windows thinks your monitor is not capable of using those refresh rates and never outputs them. All the refresh rate forcing programs I've tried fail in some place or another, but this method always works.

Dude, chill. If you would have bothered to read later on he eventually clarified what he meant and has told us that he used regular Cat 6.9's and it did the same thing. It was just a driver confliction that DriverCleaner Pro fixed. Ease up.

that doesn't justify him blaming a brand name saying "ati sucks, nvidia owns"
you don't see me crying over my old 6800 not being able to play cs:source at the low resolution of 1280x1024 at med resolution.

Oh d!ckhead...I am entitled to my own opinion and nobody asked you to chime in on the discussion mostly because you are a dumba$$ who reads one sentence and then rambles on without reading through the whole thing...

This is my first ATI card in my life, and the only reason for that was because my friend configured the system, coz for the first time I didn't want to mess with it...
Needless to say I won't be making that mistake again...
With Nvidias I had 0 problems from card 1 and on...with ATI NOTHING BUT problems...

Regarding your crying over statement, I suggest you read and re-read before you post because "not being able to play cs:source at the low resolution of 1280x1024 at med resolution" sounds like a moron wrote it...
Peace out...
