I'll call them tomorrow. I know what happened. Their automated system flagged my attempted purchases as "suspicious"

They are probably the worst bank in banking history. No one I know has had anything but problems with them. $5 to cash a check there if you don't have an account, even if they were the issuing bank and the account is held there. They charge you if you don't use your account in a way they like. They started refusing to verify funds until they were threatened by the county and every other bank in the area, and even now you have to have a verify request escalated to the manager about half the time.

I generally prefer good quality credit unions to banks, though I haven't had any complaints about Wells Fargo so far.

That completely sucks. They shouldn't be doing that. Fraud protection shouldn't come at our expense. For most people the CC or debit card is the only way we have to access our money. Not being able to buy a TV is one thing, but being stuck at a gas station is another.

I've never had problems with Bank of America. Even using an ATM in London on a business trip. I've spent way more in a day than $800 on their credit cards as well

Wow, that's really shitty. I've been all over the damn place with my USAA card and made major purchases from different countries/states with no issues at all.

Yeah... I was on my way from dropping my girlfriend off at school in Bloomington, I drove there and back that day 8+ hours on the road and I can't use my fuckin debit card to put gas when I really needed it. And it was 4 in the morning, not like I could of called and said hey unlock this shit.

Were you trying to make your purchase in another state or something? Seems weird that it flagged trying to make a single purchase.

fwiw - 'I'm the kind of guy who gets suspicious. I'm the kind of guy who thinks pudding is delicious.'

How often do you buy expensive things like this?

I'm guessing never.

And what happened to you is that the AUTOMATED fraud protection kicked in. Just like it would with any bank.

That's why you bring multiple CCs when you go shop... Most of BofA's cards were MBNA cards I think.

I used chase/bank one cards a lot even when I lived in CA where they had no branches. Now that they bought out WaMu maybe I'll stay with them. Wachovia is pretty good but their CC selection sucks.

On a side note, I haven't used my Citi dividend card in 3 years and I just started using it again (so that there is some activity and they don't try to cancel my card), no problem.

No problems with my WF accounts. Been out of state and used my card like hell and nothing bad happened to me.

what the, this never happened to me in my BofA card. It happened to me numerous times on my chase credit cards though. But, I'd just phone in, and they give me a confirmation number, and that was it. It didn't take no more than 5 minutes.

Credit union FTW. I use Arizona Federal. Haven't had a problem yet, haven't run into any fees, and their interest rates for loans and credit cards are nice and low.
