I hate blueberry pie. (YAPT)

Where I am, meat based pies are crazy popular and I don't get it. Not only are they unhealthy (full of bad quality meat and salt) but they have weird combos. Like steak and cheese pies....ugh.

My Aunt used to have a big patch of them near the big old "Bee Tree" years ago.

We'd fill up multiple 5 gallons buckets with those things about once a summer, Black Berry Cobbler one of my favorite things.

All the kids would come back with purple faces carting em into the kitchen where they were canning

I gotta Agree with Smoblikat, most fruit based pie is disgusting (I'll make an exception for strawberry). I also absolutely detest blueberries, ugh so disgusting. I tried a handful a few weeks ago just to see if it was a childhood prejudice - nope, still nasty...

Really, any pie is great if it has a quality buttery, flaky, buttery pie crust.
There are some OK pies with graham cracker or Oreo crusts, but the great pies have a buttery crust.

I forgot about my Key Lime Pie.

The three I've tried in Florida (Key West, Miami, and Disney World) ain't got nothin' on mine. :biggrin: The graham cracker crust has coconut flakes in it. Between the crust and pie filling is a layer of melted white chocolate. I throw in lime zest in the pie too.

I didn't think of meat pie when I first read and posted. There is a restaurant that I go to several times a year, that serves "our famous and enormous beef mushroom and Guinness pie". It a beef stew in a pie crust. And it does live up to its reputation of being enormous. I order it every time I go there. Goes well with a couple pints of craft brewed ale.

I guess cheese cake is really a pie. That's very high on my list as well. I can eat that plain or with a fruit topping. It's fabulous with chocolate mixed in. A good graham cracker crust on the bottom really makes a difference.

I've gained 10 pounds just reading this thread!

Key Lime pie with real key lime juice is flat out awesome. The stuff they make with lime-flavored pudding not so much. Yours looks legit.

I haven't made it yet, but one of my ideas for a pie that I would like to make someday is a strawberry pie with a thick layer of melted mozzarella cheese inside. The mozzarella cheese would have a nice flavor combination with the strawberry filling and would give the pie a nice cheesy texture.
