Right now I'm having fun with cold sores also. Three of my coworkers have them and I work in a small vet clinic so it's hard not to come in contact with the virus, especially since they have the nasty habit of using their mouths to hold needle tops while filling injections and then hading them off the other people. One of them has no clue how easy it is the spread, I've seen her share food with people that didn't know she has them and when I pointed it out to her she said she can only spread it if she has a sore. I love people that don't educate themselves...
I freaking wash my hands like crazy but I think I may have caught it anyway, have a small sore inside my nose that my doctor doesn't think it's herp but he didn't test me so I'm still a bit worried. That and my right eye has been acting funny, started itching a bit a few days after I got the sore and now feels like there is a bit of pressure in there. If I got herp in my eye and it causes me to go blind I will forever be bitter towards those girls.
Certain strains of the herpes virus cause cold sores. Herpes simplex virus type 1 usually causes cold sores. Herpes simplex virus type 2 is usually responsible for genital herpes. However, either type of the virus can cause sores in the facial area or on the genitals.
You get cold sores from another person who has an active lesion. Shared eating utensils, razors and towels may spread this infection.
