I hate cold sore

I get a cold sore that's always underneath my nose same spot every 2 months or so. It just pisses me off because it's so freaking unsightly. The timing is horrible too because we will be having a primary school reunion in two days. The cold sore would probably flared up to the worst state the night I am going out. I want to cry.
Anyone got any tips to cure or improve this cold sore thing quick?

If it flares up every two months or so you should try going on Valtrex.

As far as helping to clear it up there are prescription ointments, Denavir or Zovirax, that work best if you can start applying when you first notice a flare up. Your doc or dentist can prescribe them, and usually over the phone.

It's just 1 single cold sore that's at the same spot every time it pops up. It's getting ridiculous. It usually takes 3-4 for it to grow into full form, 2-3 days of full blown cold sore, then like a week for it to heal.
I will have to ask my dentist next time to give me something, because this cycle is getting ridiculous and annoying.

usually you can tell when its going to flare up before it does...like that warm itchy sensation, when it does, put some of that cold sore cream on it, and it'll go away...i use abreva and it usually does the trick

<avoiding facial joke>Not sure if the dentist can prescribe this for outside the mouth.</avoiding facial joke>

Cold sore's do suck though I am glad I don't get them...my wife suffers from them only when she gets overly stressed.

Yes, a dentist can definitely prescribe it.

he likely has the virus, but it happens to always remain dormant in some people.

If you've been in conditions that usually cause it like wind, sun, very dry conditions, I suggest taking Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and L-Lysine at least 2x a day.

If you already feel it coming on try to put ice on it for 15 minutes. It will help keep it away or keep it smaller

Once you get one I suggest putting fingernail polish remove on it. I know this sounds crazy but it really dries it out nicely. I used to use Carmex as I found it worked the best, but the thing with Carmex is that it makes the sore appear "juicy". I use a combo of Carmex (in the can) and fingernail polish remover.

Do you kiss her when she has them? Are you just unaffected by the virus?

Don't mean to hijack.

Right now I'm having fun with cold sores also. Three of my coworkers have them and I work in a small vet clinic so it's hard not to come in contact with the virus, especially since they have the nasty habit of using their mouths to hold needle tops while filling injections and then hading them off to other people. One of them has no clue how easy it is to spread, I've seen her share food with people that didn't know she has them and when I pointed it out to her she said she can only spread it if she has a sore. I love people that don't educate themselves...

I freaking wash my hands like crazy but I think I may have caught it anyway, have a small sore inside my nose that my doctor doesn't think it's herp but he didn't test me so I'm still a bit worried. That and my right eye has been acting funny, started itching a bit a few days after I got the sore and now feels like there is a bit of pressure in there. If I got herp in my eye and it causes me to go blind I will forever be bitter towards those girls.

Certain strains of the herpes virus cause cold sores. Herpes simplex virus type 1 usually causes cold sores. Herpes simplex virus type 2 is usually responsible for genital herpes. However, either type of the virus can cause sores in the facial area or on the genitals. You get cold sores from another person who has an active lesion. Shared eating utensils, razors and towels may spread this infection.

from Mayo Clinic

Maybe you should do your research....

Cold sores are contagious. They can pass from one person to another through skin-to-skin contact. The greatest risk of infection is from the time the blisters appear until they have completely dried and crusted over. There is a possibility of spreading the virus for some time even after the skin has healed.

I'm about as sick of these as it sounds like you are, I have one spot on my lip that tends to flare up every month or so, doing my own research seemed to indicate cold sores, but I don't know where I would have picked it up. Never kissed anyone (don't ask, different thread entirely) and no one in my immediate family has them. Never been able to figure out what else it may be so I tried Abreva for a while and I don't think it did a thing for me.

I'll look into this L-Lysine stuff, never heard of it.

Honestly, don't discount taking some Valtrex if you are having cold sores flare up every month or so. It's like a miracle drug.

Abreva is like $14.83 for a small small bottle but it works wonders as well. I highly recommend it.

I don't know, it seems like an extreme considering there's really no way I could have herpes (I know cold sores are technically, but a different strain from genital herpes). I think I'm going to order some Lysine caplets and see what that does for me before going on a herpes anti-outbreak medication.

Valtrex isn't just for genital herpes.
And you take it as soon as you feel a cold sore coming on, and people have reported that it really stops the cold sore from blossoming.

Talk to your doctor about it. (Now I sound like a commerical )

Yep

Sounds like the thing I am looking for. My facial skin is really sensitive, so I always try to avoid topical solution. I looked into abreva, but that little stick is a little too costly for me to gamble on.
Can lysine be easily bought like vitamin pills? I live in Hong Kong and supplements are not as popular as in the states.
