I don't remember, I just saw it mentioned a few times but never bothered to pay much attention. You need a second partition with 32 bit windows installed. X64 is not ready for prime time.

(back on XP Pro which didn't help cure my overall lag/stutters)

Wooohoo, flip flopping some memory around so where I could have 1gb total on the Box made BF2 so very smooth finally.

Though I find it very odd the game was basically unplayable with 512MB (6800 Ultra ) due to just lag. I know 512MB is a min requirement but at least the gameplay should be somewhat playable, it wasn't at all.

how do you find out the fps in battlefield 2? BTW, i'm running the demo.

anyways, i'm running at 1024x768 with everything set on high and it appears to run smooth (geforce 6800, amd xp2600+, 512 ram) but i'm not going to purchase it because EA continues to actively not support widescreen players. sigh.

edit: oh, BF2 does take a freakishly long time to go into the menu when i hit ESC...

renderer.drawFps 1 in ~ console
displayed in top left as current/average FPS

I have looked all over the internet for a refrence of console commands and have found very little out there. I was able to get the FPS going via console in BF1942, where can I go to find a complete refrence for these?

K I will jump on the band wagon.

Yes I love the game... when its working.

My problems are not so much with it running on my system, its 99% in the area of trying to game with friends. They built the game for teamplay but it is hard as hell to get on the same server with other friends. Starting with finding servers in their crap server browser, no working filters,no FAVORITES!!!!!. Its hard as hell to find a server with lower ping, not full, has people,ranked/non ranked, supports VOIP,same version. There has been more then 1 night that 3 of us get together and get all stoked on playing the game in the same squad, we call each other up and after 5,10,20mins later are excitement is now turned to frustration and we either end up just playing on some server where we can't talk to each other or just hang up and not even play the game. Now playing online without friends is much easier to find a good server but trying to work with friends to get to one spot is tough, not to mention once you do find a server that has ....

-good ping
-VOIP
-not full/not empty
-map rotation

.... once we log in now we can't join the same team to join a squad until 10mins later.

Damn this game is so cool but at the same time it needs some serious FFn polish to it. I don't smoke but it makes me want to go ask the neighbor for one.

I am just glad that EA and Microsoft are not teaming up to write Windows Direct X 10, if it were to happen it would be disatorous.

We don't use the in-game VOIP - we use teamspeak. That way, we can connect and collectively decide which server to join.

I looked into Teamspeak during one of my frustrating attempts to get the game going with friends and had issues getting it too work. I do have a system that runs all the time for home files and print server purposes. Is it really that easy to setup your own free Teamspeak server and how much do you think it would threatin my file server. ( I do nothing on that system expect keep AV/AntiSPyware software up to date, Don't want to risk file corruption or any other issues)

Yes, it is really easy. Install, read the readme or whatever doc there is in there. Follow the instructions to change you SA password, then connect to the web interface and set it up. Takes about 10 minutes or so.
It should not threaten your file server at all provided you have your firewall setup properly and security of the machine is already setup properly.

I have contacted tech. services numerous times and they still can not help me out. I don't think it's because I bought a specific brand of card, like my "Chaintech" 6600GT AGP. I feel that I have done everything to resolve the problem. I don't think I should go through all this trouble problem solving. EA should have done more testing before they released the game.

Did you download the demo before buying? I always do; but not to see if I like it, to see how well it works on my computer. My system is below the specificatins of the game but it works fine.

Windows 2000 professional.

Yes. My system runs the demo fine. It's just the full retail game, it will not work. I even tested the full retail game with my 6600GT AGP on another one my systems and it did not work also.
