This <stuff> is seriously the bane of my existence. From now on, I cannot support any game that uses this <stuff> - apparently I can't play a game that I wish to play (fallout 3) because GFWL crashes.

<Thank> you GFWL, <thank> you microsoft. <Thank> you any dev that uses this <stuff>. Why can't this [stuff] be like steamworks and not be totally [redacted] annoying? Why should I have to spend an hour just to get a game I paid for working - that won't work because of GFWL. Why do I have to enter my game key MULTIPLE times in GFWL. And when I do get it working, why does GFWL ask me for a key EVERY TIME I PLAY THE <FANTASTIC> GAME.

No profanity in our technical forums please

Have you considered only playing GFWL games only in offline mode?

Once you set your account up and installed the game and the client, make sure you are offline and then the GFWL welcome screen simply can be clicked off - you never have to enter another key unless you do something online with it.

i am not defending it - i felt like you did before i took it offline
- now it is tolerable.

I've never had any issues with GFWL, aside from it having to restart itself, a game and the computer a couple times for updates when I was trying to play GTA4. But then you get achievements linked to your Windows Live\Xbox360\Windows Phone\Zune which makes it easy to turn them around into real life cash.

yeah i hate GFWL and refuse to purchase any game that uses it at launch. I had serious issues with GTA 4 and GFWL not updating properly as well as dirt 2. Now if i really like a GFWL game i will wait for it to hit the $10 and under bin and hope GFWL has been removed by then, if not then i'll buy it and also pirate it and only install and play the pirate version that has GFWL removed.

Im never dealing with GFWL crap again, ever.

I must be the only person in the world who hasn't had a single problem with GFWL.

That said, it's not necessarily a good piece of software.

GFWL is a frustrating piece of software. What bothers me the most is games that you buy on Steam and have steam integration AND GFWL. I'm looking at you Warhammer. We only need one "Steam" like application.

At first I was neutral.. But the more I use it..the more I hate it. I wish Codemasters opted out of that..

Had to struggle with getting it installed correctly to play Batman: Arkham Asylum. The installer included with the game wouldn't work, so I had to dig through Microsoft's GFWL website to find the installer there. It really does suck.

I was neutral with it as well at first. I never had a problem with it, but finally got around to playing Fallout 3 and GWFL seems so unnecessary. I've been using it in offline mode which seems to help, but I may look into the GWFL disabler since all it seems to do is just add an unnecessary step to loading the game.

Edit:
Here's the direct link for the disabler:

Yes, I hate it as much as you do as well. Caused me so many problems in Bioshock 2.

I wonder if Microsoft "entices" devs to use this piece of poop software.

Its now one of the more likely items to kill my game buying. I always check for it and if possible, see if anyone has given a review of how badly its messed up the game experience.

I've had two encounters with GFWL. Batman: Arkham Asylum - no problems, but why do I have to sign in to anything at all to play a single player offline game?!? Rhetorical question.

Viva Pinata (don't ask), two different machines (one Athlon XP running XP, the other Athlon II X4 on Win7 64), installs ok, then the first time it runs, it crashes before getting to the main menu. Then a series of random-ish crashes, steadily getting further every time (less than five minutes of gameplay, several crashes). I had to download GFWL manually to get it to start working properly on the XP machine. The Win7 machine managed to trundle through the instability and retrieve the GWFL update itself. No official useful website support whatsoever.

After my experience and this thread, I think I'll stay away from GFWL.

I don't see the issue. The only game I play that uses it is Batman, and it works just fine there. In fact I actually enjoy having a link between my 360 profile and PC. It installed properly, it updated properly, and the game loads just fine every time. Maybe it used to be buggy but it seems to work fine now so I don't get the hate.

That retarded piece of software kept me from playing Bulletstorm. I ended up having to use a cracked .exe just to play single player & EA refused to give me a refund. Still no way to play multi player, which was the main point of the stupid game anyways.

Playing FO3 GOTY and hate it as well. Mine is weird - it seems to auto log me on to an offline account I created, yet still prompts me for a login, presumably to go "online". I've actually put in my username and password (works with "GFW Marketplace"), yet it says "incorrect password". So all I do is hit Escape and GFWL goes away and I can play. Its just - weird, clunky, and as someone else said: TOTALLY UNNECESSARY.

All these people complaining about it and you don't see an issue because it worked ok with your ONE game that uses it? Just because it worked ok for you doesn't mean it works ok for everyone, which it evidently doesn't.

With Bulletstorm I was getting an GFWL error when I was trying to update/patch the game. The error was too vague to figure out how to fix it. But it did install eventually. Bioshock 2 would error out saying something about my login every time I played the game.

This. DRM shouldn't be intrusive to the point that its annoying or causes your game to not play correctly, right now i'm annoyed because I was getting endless popups from GFWL in fallout 3 that prevented me from playing the game, I finally installed the GFWL disabler and am happy. This is a game that I paid 40 something bucks for on steam, why should I have to spend an hour wrangling with GFWL? I don't know of any steamworks game that causes hassle like this.

I had another incident with GFWL in bioshock 2, that pretty much drove me from playing the PC version. GFWL would continually try to log on and would log on to an old account, and I would get some error. And of course I can't save my game when GFWL isn't working and isn't letting me log in without crashing. Great. This is FAR too annoying for a paying customer to deal with.

The other incident was SF4. I purchased SF4 boxed, installed it and played it despite being massively annoyed by GFWL. A few months back I had to reinstall windows - but my games folder on my HD was intact and all of my games ran fine. In the meantime, I can't find my SF4 box so I don't have the game key -- no problem I thought, since I installed it with GFWL it should have my gamekey stored. NOPE. Even though GFWL has SF4 on my account with numerous game achievements and online play achievements dating back to 2009, it asks me for a gamekey every time I try to play it. I can only play offline, I can't play it online vs human opponents. Yeah its my fault that I lost the box, but with STEAM / STEAMWORKS I *NEVER* have to deal with this bull....hockey. Steam will always save my game key and even tell me what it is if I go in my games list. All GFWL does is pester me constantly to log in, or it will auto log in with the wrong account, and sometimes crash in the process. Way to stick it to the paying customer microsoft/capcom.

FUDGE GFWL. I will seriously never purchase another game using this garbage and will instead stick only to games that use steamworks, period.

Yea. I find GWFL pretty bad; so bad I skipped bioshock 2. Just isn't worth the hassle. I have mix results whenever I fire up a gwfl game. Most of the time i hve to web search and download something manually to fix it. Definitely a crappy piece of software that provides me no value. Never had any issues of this nature with steam.
