So my good buddy just got his gun stolen out of his car, along with other stuff. It was his carry weapon. Another gun on the street. This is why I hate guns.

you mean you hate theives and criminals

I do hate them. I hate guns too.

So, if the theives stole his radio, would also hate radios?

How many radio deaths are there each day compared to gun related deaths? There. I entertained your retarded reply. You are welcome.

The number of gun related deaths to overal number of guns on any given day is actually quite small.

But again, the gun isn't at fault. The careless person who left a lethal weapon in a car where it could get stolen is partly to blame, so is the theif.

I don't know about anywhere else but Connecticut State law dictates as soon as the gun enters your car while not on your person it must be locked in some fashion (gun lock, lock box, etc) with ammo and magazine separated from it. In other words, yes, your friend made a mistake, but it was an unlawful (here) and irresponsible mistake.

And this is where we're likely heading with legislation. Your gun is stolen, you are negligent, therefore the victims of the crime committed with that gun will be able to sue you for damages.

The guy had a carry permit, so I'm pretty sure he was allowed to have it wherever he wanted while driving. The stupid and possibly illegal part was him not securing it properly after he left the car.

WWII was a big bummer and I bet a lot of people hate that it happened but sometimes you have to look on the bright side. Without WWII we wouldn't have a new FPS about it every year until the end of fucking time!

And a bunch of movies about it .. and Band of Brothers, which was incredible.

I will admit that my firearm stays in my vehicle when I'm going places that I can't or won't carry, like work or church. It's certainly not out in the open, but if someone broke into my vehicle and started going through it, they'd find it.

I don't blame the OP's friend. While it sucks to have a firearm stolen, the same thing could have happened if someone broke into his home.

My point was if it got left in the car, we have to assume its not on his person and therefore it should have been secured.

Guns kill people too easily. The less guns out there the more peace. Let the police do their job, don't do it yourself. It's that simple.

Armed people prevent crimes. Police are there to figure out whodunit after the crimes have been committed. I prefer crime prevention myself.

Considering that OP is in the US, I wouldn't feel too bad about a lost gun. It's only +1 to the couple million in your city. Thief probably has 50 more in his den.

There is 811,000 google hits for "attacked with a baseball bat", can anyone explain to me why baseball bats should not be outlawed, but guns should be?

After all, a baseball bat has no useful purpose outside of attacking and entertainment. Even a gun is more useful as a tool.

I am a gun owner myself and I can't even understand why people would make such stupid arguments. You can't kill 6 people from 30 feet with a baseball bat.

That only proves my point. Zing!
