**** Update 2 ****
Truck still in repair. Was supposed to be ready today but a few items were not completed, and they added a nice new scratch that they are going to fix. Maybe ready later this week.

Second car, $6k damage. Will be totaled. Not sure on payout - we may keep the keys. Weren't planning on a new car for a year or two.

Adjuster and roofer came today. Significant shingle damage, no structural damage. Adjuster will submit for new roof, flashing, vents and gutters. Not sure on costs yet.

If it were me I'd pocket the money on the total of the second car except for the buyback amount, and just drive it. Sure, it is all dinged up but it is all cosmetic. Heck, you could even try some DIY dent removal tricks to maybe smooth it out a little bit. Save that money towards its replacement in that 2 years, then you could still sell the car for 500 bucks to a student in need of cheap wheels.

Fun stuff, sucks about the dents, but at least all your snow is melted already. We got dumped with another 40-50cm in the past 2 days, and more falling now. Probably another 5cm or so on the ground right now.

We had hail a few years back, but not really that impressive.

Long winded video with not much happening, but there's a part from indoors where you hear it hitting the windows. They were maybe like 1/2 in size so not as big as the ones in your video.

I love hail. However I would not want to live in areas that are prone to it. I was driving through Oregon or Washington and enjoyed one of the most amazing hail storms ever. The sky was unbelievably beautiful since it was at sunset but the hail was the size of golf balls by the time we got indoors and grew to the size of baseballs and even bigger. Was nuts and there was over a foot of hail on the ground when it was over.

What gets me though is that EVERY car that was outdoors got dented to shit. Car lots were selling their entire inventory at reduced prices the next day. I couldn't deal with that.

We have had 2 hail storms here in Phoenix AZ in te past 3 weeks. They don't last long but its so random! Hail damage on an automobile is the worst.

What places get hail like that? Every once in a while we get hail, but it's just little tiny bits.

Sparky - That's what we're probably going to do. Waiting until truck is done before we "total" the car.

Body shop has been a little mini-nightmare. They scratched one of the doors and had to repaint it. They didn't screw in my 3rd brake light and it rained, ceiling got wet. Supposedly it's ready now, but I'm really fed up.

Red Squirrel - Seems like I could hear the hail in the video.

I think hail is more common out West. We get hail once in a while, but it's super super small and only lasts a few seconds. This was a once in a lifetime thing in the area as far as the severity, I think.

I'd leave the vehicles along. If you're getting insurance money, bank it for later when you need to fix something important on the cars. Consider them beauty marks, and a result of having an active life ;^)

yeah easpecially since its a truck. or, really... 5k? wouldnt a new hood cost considerably less? or you could find one in a junkyard off a truck that has been tboned...

The biggest I've seen was a bit smaller than a tennis ball, but that was a long time ago, and extremely rare. I'd expect damaging hail every 10-15 years around here.

Body work is expensive. Maybe I'll post a redacted version of the bill.

Hood alone was ~900 before paint.
Grill in the 600 range
Paintless dent removal was around 2750 I believe ... cheaper than body work and paint
Labor to take apart panels.

It's an exhaustive list :\
