When I get my CPA, and possibly a future MBA, I'll add those onto my name as well.

Email addresses in Email sigs annoy me. I'm reading your email from my email, so why do I need to know your email address exactly?

Well when you get to the real world and email addresses in the "TO" line are no longer the SMTP address but the alias then you will know why.

I find it ironic that the OP has a large forum sig which is usually more problematic than email ones.

Alot of times companies automatically insert the disclaimer on every person's email without them having a chacnce to interfere. Also, my company has a distinct unified signature that we must all adhere to.

I usually just have my name. If I want to attempt to have my email carry as much weight as possible (which isn't much) I'll put either my job title, or BASc Candidate, Electrical Engineering, University of _____.

I am in the real world, and I can just reply to the alias, or right click on it if I want to get the actual email adress.

It's still pointless IMO. I work at a large company and all i do is put in the persons last name comma first name, ctrl-k, and i'm good to go.

one of my coworkers insists on putting his certifications in his sig. Makes me want to vomit. MCSE/MCSA (MCSA is a given if you're already an MCSE you tard.) Security this, that, the other thing. Well, he failed his 2003 cert, it's only a matter of time before his MCSE is retired.

I have a friend who is required to have a signature with html coloring and everything. When we have email chains it makes the emails grow in size like crazy. I have to delete her sign out everytime. such a waste.

wrong - this is what outlook does to e-mails, drops the actual e-mail address & only shows the alias

In the real world, your varied contacts will use different email clients that all behave differently.

Sigs are needed when you have 100s of mails in your box, and you're juggling different topics, you want to know quickly who you're emailing with

I don't think a disclaimer is ever appropriate... For example:

"If you have received it in error, please notify us immediately and destroy this e-mail and any attachments. In addition, you must not disclose, copy, distribute or take any action in reliance on this e-mail or any attachments."

Gimmie a break.

IIRC it is a HIPPA requirement for certain companies. At my company, it is automatically added to every outgoing email outside of the company...we don't even get the choice.

Not that I can remember at any of the companies I have worked for. Everyone has either outlook or lotus notes setup , they don't let you install thunderbird etc. Like every other program, it is standardized through the company.

That goes on internal e-mail too? My company just appends the legal disclaimer crap to any e-mails that leave the company.

When I get my CPA, and possibly a future MBA, I'll add those onto my name as well.

I don't think MBA is a degree you append to your name...

Really? Maybe it's just something thats common among professors. In college, all of my accounting professors had their names typed:

John Smith, M.S., M.B.A., CPA, Ph.D

It seemed as though they added every credential to their name except for their B.S.

I do remember one biology teacher, a young lady, who wrote her name as:
Sally Smith, B.S., M.S.
I always thought that was funny.

Im not planning on adding M.S. to my sig after I earn that degree, but I've see the MBA and the CPA thing added all the time.

My work email signature is dictated by the company, right down to the font. It's 12 lines long, sorry.

It's been answered, but also once the email is printed as well you lose what the alias is.

It really depends though how the client behaves as well as how you print.

My sig is:

Name
Company
Position
E-mail
Phone #

I have my e-mail there mainly for outside communication. Internally, everyone uses the address book & aliases. Externally, I've seen cases where it doesn't show the address and only shows the sender's name.
