Damn thing always breaking on me. Its worse than my car.

Pimple popped a month ago in my armpit. Been open all that time, wont close. Bandaids wont stay on cuz the pus & blood mixtures dissolved the glue.
Thought it was becoming an abscess with staph but the doc gave me some antibiotics. Not getting worse, but not getting better. Still wont close.

Finally got some spray disinfectant and liquid skin. Put a non-stick gauze pad in my pit, wrapped around with ace bandage.

Not leaking now, but I bet it will open and leak tonight in bed (I'm a roller).

Any ideas how to protect an armpit wound?

You need a wound management nurse, docs don't know dick about caring for wounds because they don't deal with the same person on a daily, weekly basis.

If it actually is oozing pus and antibiotics haven't helped, maybe you should consider getting swabs done. No pics and no history, but from what it sounds like infection is still most likely. And depending on the antibiotics you got, it could be anything.

Dermatology - have you heard of it?

shorty, you could try to immobilize the shoulder over night, using a makeshift Gilchrist bandage. Tie it around your hand, elbow, and your back, while you hold the arm across your body in front of it.

Are you using topical antibiotics? If so, put them on a bandage, and put that over the wound.
Can't tell whether an airy bandage or a tighter, less leaky bandage would be better - you've got to make that call, depending on how well your skin takes to moisture. If you're very sensitive, I'd probably go with a light bandage only, to reduce further irritation.

If there's any development, that's not to the better, I'd head right to a dermatologist though. If you have topical antibiotics, you should absolutely keep using them, to avoid infection.

You will probably want to shave as much of the area as possible while treating it.

rubbing alcohol the shit out of it, cover it with super glue, then electrical tape.

I had some sort of skin abscess in my armpit a few years ago. I went to a quick care for it, and naturally both the nurse and the (female) doctor were complete hotties. So not only was it embarrassing enough, but when they lanced it there wasn't sufficient topical anesthetic and it hurt like a MOTHER, especially when it was packed with the gauze. So I had to bite my lip and not wince during the whole procedure, which wasn't easy.

Which is to say, the gauze they packed it with seemed to do a good job of preventing the problems you're having. I was supposed to return a couple of weeks later to have it removed but I went ahead and had my wife do it - I was shocked when the gauze that came out was over a foot long (though only about 1/8" wide).

I don't know if you want to mix it with an open wound, but you could try some cornstarch (like a powder) to help keep the area dry.

Seriously, visit a dermatologist if you can. Home remedies will only do so much for you.

The majority of doctors do not have the experience in dealing with wound care because they don't have contact with their patients often enough and routinely hand over recovery and therapy yo the nursing profession.

I have a knee replacement and after several years developed swelling and ulcers on that leg that wouldn't heal. I spent the next 4 YEARS trying 4 different doctors including two orthopedists, one general practitioner and, one dermatologist. They all sent me for tests and told me helpful things like "stay off your feet and keep the leg elevated." Oh yeah, "keep the leg wrapped or wear support hose." Gee, ya think? I still followed all their advice but, the ulcers never healed.

Next, I developed an infection in my artificial knee. They replaced all the plastic bits and turned me over to the nurses for recovery. I had a wound care nurse who came to my house twice a week. I had gone 4 years bandaging open sores on my leg every day and the wound care nurse cleared it up in a month.

Doctors are great at surgery but, nurses rule for wound care.

He doesn't need a wound care nurse. He needs someone to cure the infection, and with all due respect to nurses (they're great people and hospitals would be stuck without them) OP needs antibiotics, not TLC.

How is a pimple staying open this whole time? It must have been something more than a pimple, but that is neither here nor there.

Best of luck.

You're not hearing what I'm saying. First, nurses can provide anti biotics. Second, wound care nurses have greater skills in dealing with wounds than doctors because they see and deal with many more cases on a regular basis than do doctors. Finally, most nursing is NOT done in hospitals. Long term healthcare of all kinds is done by nurses NOT doctors. Nurses are not in the business of 'TLC,' that's what SO 's and mother's are for.
