I hate my boss. Who's with me?

There are bad people in leadership positions in every company in the world. I'm interested to hear about yours.

My boss is a 65 year old cattle farmer who used to work in maintenance and, because he soldered a couple of circuit boards together back in the 80s, was deemed fit to be our CIO back in 1996. He has little-to-no understanding how virtualization, storage, network security, or enterprise networking works. Just this week he directed my team to create a way to "program" F1 (the function key), to click the mouse in specific places and enter some canned text into a field so doctors don't have to do it. This came down while we were in the middle of a UCS Firmware upgrade. He calls a meeting every Monday, Thursday, and Friday at 0800 to go over the same shit we talked about in the last meeting, and he is completely irrational. If you challenge his line of thinking, or even suggest that something doesn't work the way he thinks it does, he just gets mad (and red faced) and gives you the silent treatment.

Nope, my new boss is cool. I've never worked for someone who actually understands technology better than I do. It's actually kinda scary, coming from a world where I've had to dumb down my technical explanations to an 8th grade level so management could understand it.

I suggest the obvious, if it's practical at all, look for another job! Not a good idea to work for a company that would have such an unqualified CIO.

If you write medical/healthcare software, you are part of the problem. All such companies are pathological money grubbing self entitled corporations without integrity or merit. They create proprietary software abominations that follow no known standard, don't communicate well with other software in use and, require a total rewrite just to change the format of reports.

The job is great, the management is shit. Considering other options. Sad since I'm about to hit my 7 year mark, but I've been watching the decline and I see the writing on the wall.

Your boss sucks but you should use his stupidity to BS him and get some more time out of your projects.

I like my boss. I doubt I'll ever meet anyone smarter than him. He never micromanages or bothers anyone in our group, mostly because he's deep in his own work the majority of the time or working with us on common projects. I'd probably leave if I had to work for some of the other managers in my company, because they're just awful and barely know what they're doing.

Can you top my boss?

1. 63 yo. But he's checked out...both his mentality and his own laziness.

2. Can't believe he's paid six figs to work from home 3x a week and barely does anything. He would not last a week elsewhere outside of this huge bloated company.

3. No exaggeration. He's asked me what teams I'm in charge of six times in last 6 mos. Yea. He's checked out. I even sent him an email with my details. Well he asked me again last week.

4. An avid Trump supporter. This is non of my biz but every time we have 1:1 he just always end up talking about the latest hate against 'mass media', fake news, unemployed blacks, black single mothers that live on govt tits, etc. This guy literally regurgitates Fox News.

5. Doesn't know how to use Jira after 2 years of doing nothing.

He's been good to me though (And I to him). I'll continue to support him but many days above gets on my nerve.

I don't necessarily hate my boss but I do think he's over his head at many times. With that said, I'm beginning to hate working and as sad as it is to say, wishing my life away to get to retirement.
