i average about 120k/year from my day job and from my last year the only difference i noticed is I buy more random crap I dont need. Along with no time to use any of it.

In 3 years when my high school reunion passes im gonna quit and work at a shoe store.

I actually like people, and find most americans snobbish and rude. I welcome foreigners because they actually have tact and are generally friendly. And I suspect the ones that aren't friendly have already experienced a few americans.

I am an american btw. In every sense of the word.

I've been at two top-tier engineering instutitions--I find that I get along great with the Indians, they are all real social, speak English great, jokesters, and slackers who work together with everyone to get the job done as painlessly as possible. The "other" Asians don't speak English as well, and as such are less likely to banter with Americans, but they are still alright if you are willing to struggle with much rougher English. As a result, they tend to keep closer to each other. and not be as social with others in their classes.I'm talking the FOB crowd.

After much detailed analysis *sarcasm*, I think its because they speak English more in India, as a result of it being a part of England. Go ahead, call me racist!

No. I got hired for my analytic problem-solving skills, my communication skills, and my software engineering skills, in that order.

2. asianized your name (shuttleboi?

No. It's a mix between Shuttle (I had bought a Shuttle XPC one time), and that stupid Avril Lavigne song. Perhaps I was drunk at the time.

3. doesn't realize english has nothing to do with programming?

Wrong. You are talking about programming. I am talking about large-scale software engineering. In the latter, you have to be able to convey your design decisions and understand what others are doing.

I sense some bitterness here.

By the way, who's to say these "Indians and Chinese everywhere" aren't Americans as well?

Btw (again): I, too, earned a 700+ on my GRE Verbal, and don't feel that it has much relation at all to my communication ability. It was more tied to rote memorization (word definitions) than anything else.

On what basis do you claim that they think they speak better English than you? Do you feel Americans are entitled to work in a private company? That is antithetic to the very idea of American Capitalism.

EDIT: BTW, I score a 45 Verbal (98th percentile) and 6.0 AWA on my GMAT and I am from India. So, yeah, I am actually chuckling here at your 720 Verbal GRE and grandoise ideas about why that should fetch you a job over an Indian or Chinese who might be better qualified than you in other, more relevant ways.

wonderful. I'll take my 42 and 5.5 GMAT over your ability to memorize some test book any day. And yes, if its an American company, we are entitled to work there more than foreigners who need an H1-B visa. This isn't pure capitalism. You think that India would be happy to allow millions of Americans to come work in their country, driving down wages and hurting their citizens?

No wonder you scored less than I did on the Verbal sections of the GMAT. Inspite of the typographical error, my sentence is still grammatically correct. I like how you insinuate that my performance on the Verbal section of the GMAT is the result of "memorizing a test book" while your's isn't We are discussing Verbal abilities here - hardly something that can be memorized on a CAT. 42V/5.5 AWA is still good. I wouldn't feel inadequate even with that score, and neither should you.

Indians aren't coming en masse to the US to take your job. The number of Indians that come here is a very small fraction of the qualified people you would find in India. The truth is the American companies are taking large numbers of jobs overseas. The H1-B visa is a trivial problem compared to how many jobs are being offshored. Ironically, even Indians on H1-B have been affected by offshore outsourcing. You are simply barking up the wrong tree.

Americans being entitled to apply to work at a company is quite different from Americans being entitled to work there. A good company wouldn't just give you a job because you were American.

But a good company would give me a job because I used the Vulcan Mind Meld on them.

I had an Indian teacher last quarter, and he was really friendly, albeit a bit hard to understand at times. Then I had a Chinese teacher for Java. She was a really friendly person (read too friendly for me). I once left class early because of a headache, and she walked me to my car....very closely. I thought since she was chinese, she was going to do karate on me outside the building for leaving her class too early.

We can't survive anyway, imagine 1 Billion of Indians and 1 Billion of Chineses, and only 300milions of Americans. So our destiny is the same as dinosaurs. Hopefully people of future will have some Americans in museums.

That's pretty much Silicon Valley for you.
These companies go out of their way to hire H1Bs, because they are pretty much tied to the company until they get their green card, which takes several years. The flip side of that is you get a lot of people who are there not because they want to be there, but because they are waiting for their green card. Not exactly a good foundation for a coherent team culture.
That's part of the reason why a small team Israel did a lot more to turn Intel's prospects around than an army of engineers in the US, and Intel India couldn't even tape out a Xeon chip.
