Yet you're posting on a site owned by someone with that ethnicity. Go post on Ebaum's World.

Indians run IT at my company, and they're some of the smartest, coolest guys in the company. Much more fun to hang out with than the regular Americans.

Nope. Not true. By definition, H1-B is only issued to a foreign worker, if an American citizen can't be found to fill this position. So, erub is right: Americans are more entitled to work in this company in this case.

Until they have the visa, they cannot legally work in the country. So how does my point not stand?

How does it stand? Are Americans more entitled to work in American companies than foreigners? Yes. Is it always possible to find a skilled American to fill the position? No. Is H1-B program abused? Absolutely, and more than you can imagine.

Lol, nobody is 'entitled' to anything just because of their nationality. I'd pick the foreigner over the american 100% of the time if the foreigner is more qualified.

Have a cookie.

So maybe they don't speak English as well as you, but they can program better? I never saw the point of shunning potential employees due to stuff that matters less than the main issue at hand. Everyone specializes in different things, and true "scholars" are rare. Either that, or they have poor communication skills because they were so into studying.

Disclaimer: <-- not Chinese or Indian. American with some European descent.

Just to fan the flames, it becomes a real issue for the team under them when you've got a very intelligent team leader, who has trouble communicating what he/she wants their team to be doing thanks to language/social barriers.

It becomes a huge issue for management, but everyone is too tied up worrying about being branded 'racist' to point out these dramatic insufficiencies...

We deal with tons of Indian and Chinese folks as well. Yes, it's hard to communicate with them sometimes. We deal a lot with Germans, Britons, Latin Americans and Australians too and ALL of them have heavy accents when they speak English. Guess what? You have to wake up. In a global economy (no matter what country you live in), you are a minority. So it's up to YOU to start learning how to communicate with them, not the other way around. Maybe you should consider learning Hindi, or Mandarin.

So, when you say you're hired for your analytic problem-solving and your communication skills, but you end up whining on a forum that there are too many people in your industry that you can't get along with, then I must assume that you really suck at your job.

Hey, OP, let's trade jobs. You can come do what I do (deal with the general public as CS for a large red celluar company) for about $15k/yr, and I'll take your job. I guarantee you'll be begging to work with "Indians and Chinese" after about a week.

what about GRE Math ?? Those Indians and Chinese probably got ~800 in their GRE Math and that is why they are there and correcting your English

Chances are anyone who goes goes to a good grad school for engineering got an 800 on the GRE math. So many people get perfect scores that getting an 800 only puts you in the ~93rd percentile. The test really isn't that much harder than the SAT.

Taking into account that you were considering leaving your company 2 months ago, you should absolutely leave now.

I'm more concerned with how the companies are moving long-term. I guess the grass is greener on the other side. I think I will stick it out for a full calendar year just out of a sense of professionalism; at the end of 12 months, I hope I will have gained enough skills to be desirable again.

There are only two types of coworkers: good coworkers and coworkers who suck. Both categories have representation from all races.

No. I got hired for my analytic problem-solving skills, my communication skills, and my software engineering skills, in that order.

Well, you've obviously failed to solve your problem in this job. You've also apparently failed to communicate well with your coworkers. That leaves software engineering skill.

Thank you for stalking me on this forum.

Interestingly, I've been away from ATOT for the last two months, and I've been much more productive and proactive during this time than before. I wonder if that's a coincidence.

And by "away from ATOT," I mean banned for a month for making extremist left-wing comments.

So you make $120K a year and you hate your job because you're essentially racist?

Funny, most extreme left wingers love immigrants, either legal or illegal. So what's up with that? George Soros will revoke your card.

As long as they use toilet paper instead of their left hand I don't see what the problem is.

I think if you are a Racist the only job you might be happy at is as a Prison Guard.

BTW, are you aware that the owner of this site is of Indian and Iranian ancestry?

Unfortunately money cannot buy me time, like the time to travel or to pursue a hobby.

Other than that, money does not bring me happiness. I am no more happy now than when I was in grad school making $20K/year.
