You are pretty young. You'll find as you grow up that you will have to do many things that are distasteful. My advice? Stop whining and finish out the 3 months you sound like you're 12. Kids.....jeebus..

I was legitimately asking for advice and I got it. Your tone of superiority is not needed here sir. You're no better than the rest of us, in fact you're much the same and I'm sure you were here at one point in your life.

You sound pretty old, like a guy that's lost hope. I've found that if there probably is a way to enjoy anything, even my job despite the fact that I hate it so much. If there is a way I will find it, and I'll ask questions until I do, because at least I'm trying and not just giving up and complaining.

Wait till October

You already know you're leaving then so it shouldn't be a hard goal to reach. Lots of people hate their job and want out, but since they don't see an end to the suffering they just get beaten down and depressed. You already know when yours is going to end so just hang in there. No reason to get another job just to leave it.

PS: I actually enjoy my job (most of the time). I like everybody here enough that I even hang out with them OUTSIDE of work.

That's not how it is! We all need to find jobs we enjoy :3 That's my goal at least.

You will never find it.

And when you think you did/do, in time, you WILL hate it.

No one wakes up on Monday morning and says "I can't wait to get to work today".

Dream job = just that, a dream, sooner you accept it, better off you will be

Also, harhar, I live in Utah. There are no pretty chicks here. I've only seen 1-2 7/10+ in my two years of living here.

Thought that was you in the avatar. This thread just became less interesting.

You sound like you may as well be grumpy man :3 I've had previous jobs that I've enjoyed immensely even after more than a year of working there (which isn't much time I know but the experience wasn't even close to being bad). It's all about the attitude you wanna put towards your work.

So guys, might as well make a thread to ask for some advice...

I have threeish months to go. This place is so bad, everyone who had decent knowledge has either regular quit or rage quit.

What is with ATOT's obsession with the term "rage quit"? It's a JOB, not Battlefield 4.

Grow up and give your letter of resignation and two weeks notice like everyone else. Otherwise, forget about getting a good job reference from them in the future.

It is unfortunate that people leave and don't put their two weeks. I've never seen a purpose because yeah, it burns your bridges for getting a job back there if you ever need it + ruins any good recommendations you may get.

However, I don't understand your distaste for the term rage quit. I use it more for DotA2 than any other game.

Maybe if you have zero skills and ambition. Sure, there will be things you don't like about your job, but you should never hate it.

Sure, I don't wake up on Monday morning and say "I sure am glad I get to go to work this morning!", but once I am there I sure do enjoy it. I am sorry your life is so shitty you have to spend 8+ hours a day somewhere you hate.

Someone who shares the same attitude as me. I like it. If there is a way to enjoy this job, which seems less and less likely by the day, I darn will find it! If not it should be at least enough to get me not to hate it. If the solution is me browsing anandtech all day, so be it >:3

it's obvious from his post history here he is a miserable person. most miserable people hate their jobs, and most miserable people think being miserable is normal since that is their state of mind 100% of the time. therefore he thinks it's normal to hate your job.

i enjoy my job very much and it has motivated me to do stuff in my field on the side for side money (mobile development). and it pays well so it gives me the funds i need to enjoy a lot of things in life that i enjoy doing such as taking very nice vacations and having the toys i want to have.

as the badass john taffer says on the intro of his show ... "i dont embrace excuses, i embrace solutions." that is a very simple and basic saying, but if you think about it, it goes a long ways.

This is genuinely good advice imo. It does fall on the person though to realize they're making excuses. I know a lot of people that try to avoid self blame at all costs. I'm sure everyone does it now and again though. I kinda already knew I should trudge it out. I just need something to make my days less suckish. Anandtech seems like a good place to browse and make discussion.

I can't say I hate it, but I can think of 1 million other places I would rather be (and that's with a job I "loved" too/in the past).

Example of lack of ambition, or just negative attitude in general. Everything will look like the light you see it in. Yes I hate my job, yes people sucks here, yes it sucks answering calls ... but I'm making 16$/h which is pretty decent in Utah, I get medical benefits, 401k, build experience. Moving to Cali I may need to make more money, but for where I am, what this job is paying me isn't bad.

I can at least find comfort in the fact I'm not being broke and retarded for the next 3 months. Now I need to make this place a little bit more fun/tolerable.

Sounds to me like the job you loved, you didn't love. If I wasn't being paid to do what I do now, I would be doing it for free at home, which I do as well, although not as much as I'd like. I actually don't like days off where I am not on vacation or busy. I enjoy being at work.

I have yet to experience a job like that, but I have enjoyed the time I spent at work. I probably just don't have the type of job though where I can do work at home (which is okay because I don't think I'd enjoy bringing my work home with me anyways).

I also feel like I can't emphasize enough that you'll see what you want to see. Try to shine a different light on it. :3

when you start to hate your job is when you need to start looking for a new one. i know you said you are leaving in 3 months anyways, so i'd just toughen it out for those 3 months because you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

the ones who hate their job and continue to work there are the most miserable people in life and for the life of me i cannot understand why one would stay at a job like that. maybe it is because i've never had trouble finding work (only been at 3 different places out of school after nearly 10 years), but i just don't understand the mindset of someone who will put up with being somewhere they hate for 40 hours a week (and a lot of the times its a lot more than 40 hours a week). life is too short to live that way.

Here's what I would try.

I would focus on what I can do, and do that well. You hate what management is doing... then ignore it so it doesn't bother you.

They make terrible decisions that make it harder to do the job? Not your problem. You only have to do what you can with what you have to work with. Stop thinking about how much better it could be. You'll find your hatred will melt away when you can take pride in what you're doing even though nobody is helping you do it better.

You're not the owner or the manager, so don't carry their incompetence on your own shoulders. If it takes you an hour to do what used to take 5 minutes, then be satisfied that nobody else could have done it in less time... in that environment.

I had a job like that, where management seemed hell-bent on taking every action possible to keep us from getting the job done. All we could do is cope with the environment we were placed in. And I found satisfaction in knowing I was doing a great job under the circumstances, even though I was occasionally threatened with termination for poor performance. I knew that was just their way of terrorizing people. If they started laying it on too thick, I'd ask my manager to help me work on ways to improve. That would shut him up for a couple months, because there was nothing he could say - in fact, he went out of his way to avoid me for weeks because he was afraid I'd ask him again about helping me improve.
