yesterday, I got pulled over by the the Pennsylvania State Police for doing 71mph in a 55mph zone. Everyone around must of been going at least 80. Anyways, I pull over hand over my driver's license and he says to me "your the 12th person I caught this morning" (this is around 10a.m.). Ok, right now i'm a little bit pissed, he comes back around 10 mins later and hands me a $167 tickettttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.

That is a ton of money for a speeding ticket!!!!!

Is PA one of those states where if you get a speeding ticket you just have to pay it and your insurance won't go up???

P.S. I was going down a mountain when he clocked me

Give me some advice, should I fight it???? or just pay it off?
BTW, this is my first ticket ever!! In 10 days it would have been 3 years since I got my license

$167 for a 16 mile over ticket??? Where I used to live they had a base $100 fee just for getting a ticket... not including the price of the fine. It was nuts.

If you can afford the lawyer fees, go ahead & fight it. But you're probably better just paying it & slowing the fvck down.

I got a 72 in a 55 last December, & I've driven MUCH slower since then. It's funny as hell to have some idiot in an SUV riding your ass, & then come around a corner to see a speedtrap. 60 seconds ago they were cussing your slow driving, & you just saved them from a ticket.

BTW, my 72/55 was $112 IIRC, I paid $75 to the clerk & called it good.

I thought if you just pay the fine, the points are still tacked on to your license. I have to go through traffic school (which is tomorrow) to make sure that the points aren't added. I was going 20 over (65 in a 45) which was a >$200 ticket. The class is only $107, plus 6 hours of my time. Oh, BTW, this is in AZ.

BTW- right now i'm in Buffalo, NY (so it will be kinda hard to get back there)which is kinda far away from the Pittsburg area (near where the incident took place).

umm so where does that leave me???

hmm, I got 6 or 8 tickets, all speeding in the first 2 years of my driving licence life.
god knows how much I paid.
in the end I despise cops and slow down my driving, a lot!
So I guess those tickets will do you good

It's pretty rediculous the way our country treats speeding tickets. Its used by the police as a revenue source. Everyone speeds a bit more more and you'll see some police officers pull some over and let some go. So how fast should you go? I really don't know since I've had 3 speeding tickets in my life, and I'm 23. I've also saved many more by watching onramps and my rear view mirror. But.. it would be nice if they enforced the law like police officers enforce other laws.

So you think the cops can pull over EVERY speeder? Give me a break! They can't! So, what they have to do is pick and choose. Everyone who speeds knows that they are breaking the law. If you are caught speeding, just pay the damn ticket and if you don't want to get another one DON'T SPEED! What ever happened to taking responsibility for your actions?

Just got one here a few weeks ago, 73 in a 60 - $48 not too bad so I just paid it. Really annoying though, I rarely go more then 10 over and was on my way home from the airport not watching the speedo....sigh....oh well

They don't even attempt to pull over every speeder. I've driven by them at 75 on the freeway numberous times and they don't even care. That's why I feel for those who get pulled over for doing much less. I don't care if they don't pull people over or do so, as long as they are consistent. We all know we break the law, but don't pick and choose as you like.

Well, if you were going to challenge it, what would you say? We'll play judge! (obviously there's no point in fighting if you don't have a case).

Isn't Pennsylvania the state with the "Menu of Fines" posted at the border? When we used to drive through there twice a year to go to Montreal we had it figured out we might as well do 74 since the fine for 65 was only 10 dollars less. They also had the silly sign that said "We are still 55" like that was something to be proud of.

Did you guys read about the city that was known as the speeding ticket king?

They are going bankrupt because of people not paying!

Lemme guess.. on the Turnpike? My mom got a very similar ticket (may have been 71 in a 55, maybe 73 though) going through there two years ago. Her first speeding ticket in like 20 years. Don't remember how much the fine was, but it was around that amount (read: expensive)

Jesus what a stupid reply. You NEVER pay the ticket...you ALWAYS fight it, even if you end up paying a lawyer double, it will more than even out in lower insurance bills.

I have been driving for 25 years, and have had more speeding tickets than I can count. I have beaten every single one with the help of lawyers, and NEVER paid a fine and NEVER had a problem with an insurance agency. My last ticket was 74 in a 60, the fine was 167 bucks. I paid my lawyer 89.99, 30 in court fees, and was adjudicated innocent. I did not even have to go to the lawyer's office (faxed the ticket and the release on my CC) OR to court (the lawyer went for me), and my driving record remains spotless.

To sum up...get on the net, find a Law office in Pittsburg that specializes in fighting traffic tickets, and breathe easy.

haha ya, I remember seeing that a while ago. I was taking that Intersate that goes from Morgantown, WV to Pittsburg ( I believe its the turnpike, I will have to look on the ticket).

The operative portion of that advice was the "slow the fvck down" part. You don't get speeding tickets when you drive the speed limit.

hm...u can prolly beat speeding tickets but how about my situation? I was just driving around Pasadena because it was my 2nd day of work (and they had moved me to a different building) and I was lost. Anyways I pulled into a left turn lane thinking it was a protected turn, so when the light turned green (turns out there was no green arrow)...i turned left after waiting a bit and the other side didn't move, well as I was turning the cars started to move, but i got the turn in before any cars even came close to me. Well a car was on the other side, made a quick right turn and nabbed me. Any way I can win the case? He gave me a ticket for failing to yield to traffic during a left turn :|
