I hate Steam.

I'm downloading my 3+gb TF2 file at 22.5kbps. Yet another problem with this horribly conceived, terribly executed piece of malware junk.

The only time Steam DLs games slowly is right after a reformat and I'm grabbing several games at once. Never drops below a few hundred KB though.

Never had any issues with extremely quick downloads from Steam. It has its bugs, sure, but maxing out my net connecting has never been a problem.

Might be a user specific problem... I downloaded TF2 on my laptop today at almost 1mbs.

My downloads are normally around 200kbps, so it sounds like it's you. But of course keep blaming steam all you want if it makes you feel better. Maybe next time you'll go out and buy the disc so you won't have to download the whole fucking game in one shot.

I think steam is a P2P system, so if you have an ISP who throttles P2P, steam might take a beating.

Damn...when will we get such super high download speeds where I stay! Maxed out 130kbps is what I get.

Umm...it's a 1mbps unlimited connection and I pay around $55 for it every month. There is another option available of a 16mbps connection but it's got a 8gb download limit.

Agreed. I get between 1 and 2MB/sec when I download stuff from Steam.

I'm also a fan of Steam, however they are having another one of their "free play" weekend deals with Unreal Tournament III and are allowing people to pre-load now. That could be what is happening to the op.

I usually get around 300K downloads from Steam, but I recall that when I pre-loaded Zeno Clash it wouldn't even start the download for a while.

The same Steam that told me I wasn't connected to it while playing TF2, so I couldn't access my backpack and switch weapon loadouts, but I could play TF2 and use Steam Friends?
Yeah, personally I think it's great too.
Or the same Steam that downloads self updates and doesn't allow you to cancel them even if you want to play a game? (Thus screwing up ping, especially if you are on a low b/w connection where they take a while to download).
Or the Steam which (for me on multiple computers, connections and accounts) likes to start paused updates for games I'm not playing when I launch a different game I do want to play (thus screwing up ping if it's an MP game)?

I have a fibre optic cable connection @ 20mbps. Steam is the only place i have managed to use my connection to its fullest downloading at over 2 MB/s.

Steam has been slow for me for the last year and rarely gets near even half my 10meg dl speed. as I type this its only at 200-250 KB/s which is less than a fifth of what its capable of. its really pissing me off to because Steam is one of the reasons I upgraded to faster internet.

Fail. Your rant is fail. I could assume all kinds of things about you, but this is a tech forum and not the place for such things. Had you said something similar in P&N you would have been thrashed horribly, and rightly so.
