I hate stupid people. (My rant for the day) ---Now with picture

Yesterday my girlfriend and I returned to my apartment after a weekend in Chicago. Well it is pretty dead in the apartment complex since it is spring break this week. This morning my girlfriend wakes me up and tells me that she is going to get some coffee before I had to get into work. Well 30 seconds later she is back in the apartment to tell me that my driver's side rear window is shattered. However, it only formed a spider web and did not shatter into my backseat.

Looking around the parking lot, I noticed several other cars had actually been broken into. Now it is time to file a police report.:disgust:

Update:

Just got off the phone with the Dodge dealer since it is a specially tinted window. The window has a black tint to it as seen in the above picture. It is a $100 piece, but Chrysler no longer makes it. The representative ran a check of Dodge dealers across the nation and no one has it.:disgust:

So far two quotes from Auto Glass stores at $264.42 installed and $215 installed.

Nope.

The whole replacement will be coming out of my pocket. My girlfriend just called to tell me that the police are on their way and she is filing a complaint with management since their security guard sleeps on the job.

They never even got into the car. I think the alarm LED got rid of them. My alarm did not go off since the impact was not much. Had the alarm gone off, I would have been out there in a minute.

Several other cars were broken into. Their back windows were completely shattered and broken in.

this schmuck probably gave up after your window didn't shatter completely. he was probably going through cars quickly for a quick score: purses and other valuables laying around.

That really sucks. If you can I would turn up the sensitivity of the alarm because if the car was hit hard enough to break glass it should have went off.

Happened to me a month ago. Someone broke my driver side window at 9 pm, even though i had the face off of my deck. They took the plastic around the face off, but that's all there is. So I had to replace the window and that part. I had to get a used window and that entire replacement took an hour and 120 dollars. Beats getting a new window.

your glass was shattered and your alarm didn't go off? dude you need a new alarm.

I turned down the sensitivity since many people here have systems (subs) that set it off.

this same thing happened to me. one morning, when going out to my car, i noticed the "quarter panel" (back) passenger side window was spidered. mine had a little hole in the center like it'd been shot by a BB gun. priced a new window (just the part) at several places and got something like:

1st place: $500
2nd place: $210
3rd place: $490
4th place: $510

so i called the second place back up to ask why they are so cheap, and they realized it was the wrong part. they said the part was actually for a two-seater model of my car, but had the same dimensions as the $500 one. so they ordered the cheaper part and tried it, and it worked. so the good news is it didn't cost me $500 to fix. the bad news is that nobody will ever catch that little sh!t.

Like I said, sensitivity is way down. They would never be able to get into the car without the alarm going off though. (I've got a dual alarm system in there)

Reminds me of a time I was on a co-op in Evansville (really, Mt. Vernon). During the high school spring break, the kids would go around siphoning gas out of the cars at the complex. Mine wasn't up there that week (I'd ridden up with a friend) and they couldn't get to his as you had to pop open the lid from inside. Lucky the cars weren't broken into.

You should setup a webcam that triggers off motion and point it out a window toward your car
