This man is speaking the truth.

What did you guys major in? A job is a vacation from school. After 4 years of Computer Engineering i'm now working a regular 8-5 job and I have so much free time I don't know what to do with it all.

I can honestly not see where people get so much school work from.

I go to a good school. I'm in a difficult major. I take 19 credits/term. I work 15-20 hours/week. I still have plenty of free time at night, and my weekends consist of getting trashed and watching football hungover. Ok, I don't exactly have a 4.0 and if I applied myself more I probably could, but I honestly don't see the benifits outweighing the negatives.

What field?

After doing full-time co-ops in the CS field, and seeing what the other people in my office do...man...work is a joke.

exactly....I am on coop, and while i enjoy it, I miss school so much...

High School is nothing compared to college. I got all A's in high school and barely studied. Flash forward to last spring, i had a major break down and just broke down in tears one day. D- in Calc 3, C- digi logic, C+ circuits, dropped discrete math. Last year I went froma 3.4 GPA to a 2.79. Now i have my act together, and i am working on bringing academics back together. Just relax.

I'm looking forward to having just a job. I've been working full time and going to school full time for 4 years now. I've got an 8-5 job with night classes, how can that be better than just an 8-5 job?

if you ever need a humbling moment, goto aidsmeds.com and read the 'living with aids' forum. it will make your hardest day a walk in the park.

You think being in the working world is better?

You college kids are incredibly foolish.

I dont know - I am enjoying life.

I am working 40hrs a week. Go to school 3 days a week(total driving about 3 hrs on these days). Taking 14 units which is 4 classes (and for clarification: one unit equates to four hours of time spent on a class. So, a four unit class would require 12 hours of study and class time a week.)

Maybe I just like living a high stress life but I am enjoying it.

And it'll only get worse. According to my calendar I will not have a proper rest until the end of December.

I can't wait til I am outta this hell hole and into a decent job. Right now I can barely imagine having seemingly countless hours of free time (not to mention money!).

School sucks man... but for me... I miss the days.

I don't really understand you poeple, the ones that say work is much worse.

Let's assume you have a 8-4 job, with the occasional stress time whereby you work 8-6 or 8-7. When you get home, what exactly is it that you do, say 6-1am? That's 7hrs of free time. And weekends, what do you do with two whole freaking days of free time?!

You're gonna have to work hard to convince, me, because every person I see around me has lead a better life after school than at school (and none of them have taken anything as hard as ECE)

So did guys get a easy degree, or do you have a nasty job?

I've worked 32 hour stretches before...

It really depends on the job and the major, I think

My degree wasn't easy BUT it wasn't engineering either. My job is quite demanding and loved just having school to worry about.

Difference is that when you come home from work, you are all worn out.

You can do lots of work in school, but you can also have fun doing homework with friends. At work, you have to help try to make this certian atmosphere, so you have to be really PT and not insult people.

After you work everyday 8-5, you get worn out alot.

I also am running the Film Production Club at my school every Tuesday, in between shooting short films for other things and reading the occaisonal Joseph Campbell book in between. When I get home I have pretty much zero free time, but that hasn't got me down. I'm getting straight A's in all my classes and life is holding up. I think I'm going a bit crazy though. I hope I don't crack under all this pressure.

High School is nothing compared to college, at least for those of us doing a BS....

I think it really comes down to how people handle stress. That's why people always look back and say how "easy it was" or "why did we even worry". Plus, as you get older, you don't have the energy to do some of the things you did when you were young. On top of that, add some kids, spouse, bills to take care of and it eventually feels more stressful or more difficult than school ever was.

I'm sure when we're all old and grey, we'll look back and laugh at how we thought our life was hard. Just enjoy life.

I'd like to point out, I'm working a fulltime co-op right now, no classes, 8-5 every day. I'm working alongside the regular software developers in my company, doing the same things they do(for alot more money).

Work is 100% easier, less stressful, less tiring than school. 1000%. Its more boring, but I walk home with a paycheck, not a dent in my wallet like school.

Don't listen to these whiney people saying work is worse. Maybe they just need new jobs.

Wow. If you hate school, work will make you suicidal.

In school you get nice winter, spring, and summer breaks. In real life, you get 2-3 weeks per year for vacation. Add to your ~40 work week a wife, kids, elderly family members that need/want you for something or other, and having to maintain a house, yard, etc., you're just as busy and much more stressed. The only thing you have to worry about now is making grades. In real life, the decisions you make have far-reaching impacts with people close to you.

Don't wish yourself into the real world too quickly, it's not all it's cracked up to be. I wish I could be a college student again.
