I hate time warner

I'm not even a subscriber yet and I already hate them . I'm moving Austin and the apartment only uses shit warner. No problem I thought! There's no way all the stories that people tell are true. No body could be worse than comcast I thought.

I've spent an hour attempting to become a new subscriber. I only want the internet so I went to the website and attempted to order online. Surprise surprise I look at the charges before finishing and there is a stupid modem rent fee. I looked back and so far I have not found a way to tell them that I have my own and remove the modem fee... Fine, I decided to then just call them and set it up that way. Well I asked what the prices were and the lady quoted me $5 more a month! I mentioned that the website that I'm looking at right now said that for their standard it was only 35 instead of 40 . After 5 mins of checking she concluded that was an old price and not valid. Screw that, I next went to their online chat. I got some Indian guy telling me to go ahead and order with the fee and he will change it before it gets processed .... Yeah no way in hell is that going to work. I will get billed and sent a modem and I'm sure shit warner would do anything to avoid refunding me. I can't wait until Google gets here. /rant

$40 a month??? I'd kill for that at this point. I pay about $80 for 10Mbps DSL that randomly disconnects. I get what I get for living in the country, but don't bitch to me about your $40 a month internet.

I had the same crappy experience a month ago when I signed up with TWC. I was trying to schedule the start date and I got three completely different answers from three different reps. Finally after getting it set up, a month later I get the paper bill in the mail and they jacked up the price on me. When I called, they gave me the use BS about how the price I saw must not have been from their website or that it was old, even though it was still on their own webpage. I hinted I would cancel and they reduced the price to what I originally signed up for. Unfortunately, I think threatening to cancel is the only way to get things corrected.

If you can get it Grande is one of the best in Austin.

I've had very few problems with both TWC and Comcast. However, Charter has been the best provider I've experience, internet wise.

I've had TWC for 4 years now. I think I've had one outage (took out a huge portion of LA for a few hours) and that's it. But I've never had an issue with speed (always get what's promised for standard). So amazingly, I don't have any complaints. That sounds crazy!

The only problem I've had with TimeWarner is that the guy they sent over to install my stuff didn't seem to know what he was doing, and it took over an hour to install a modem. Other than that, it's been great. I pay $45 /month for 20MB and it's been smooth :thumbup:

Their cable service sucks because their old cable boxes are f**king horrendous. However, their internet is solid, I've had it for years and uptime and bandwidth are both very good and dependable.

Not seeing the problem here. They and other cable companies/phone companies have better deals online than calling in.

As for the modem rent fee, when the installer comes you just hand him your own modem. He changes the MAC address on the account, takes the rental modem back and because you now have a MAC on your account that isn't time warner owned they take the modem rent off your bill.

Our "business class" service on the west side of Austin drops for a minute or two (sometimes much longer) multiple times weekly.

TW sucks.

Sign up online for the internet rate. Once the modem is sent to you return it to the local TWC office. OR have someone come and install it for you and do what sswingle said.
